How often do we peel onions and throw away the husks from them, because they are garbage. Well, sometimes, however, we don't throw it away, but leave it in the old fashioned way for Easter, paint the eggs. We paint, throw out the boiled husk, and pour the resulting broth after painting the eggs. And we ourselves do not know that with our own hands we are getting rid of a wonderful helper in our gardening business
Why can onion skins be useful in the garden, in the country, in the garden or in the flower bed?
Firstly, the decoction of onion peel contains almost all the elements from the periodic table, that is, potassium, manganese, copper, iron, calcium, magnesium, chromium, boron, and many other elements are present there. It is easier to name something that is not contained in onion peel (and does not contain any harmful substances). Secondly, onion husks just wonderfully stimulate plant growth, allowing you to almost completely abandon the use of chemical fertilizers. Thirdly, plants that are regularly watered with a decoction or infusion of onion husks become more resistant to various diseases and pests.
In addition, this seemingly garbage is an excellent tool in the fight against harmful insects such as aphids, Colorado potato beetle, moth, spider mite. It also helps to protect root crops during storage from various fungal diseases, get rid of yellowing leaves on cucumbers and keep apples and pears until spring.
How to use onion peels?
Storing fruits (apples and pears): This requires well-dried onion skins. Grind it up. Then put the fruit in cardboard boxes or plastic bags (with holes for ventilation), put a little crushed husk on the bottom, then lay a layer of pears or apples, sprinkle it well with the husk, and again - a layer of fruit. And so continue until the box is full. The last layer should be the husk. By the way, fruits can not only be stored in this way, but also sent without fear that they will be lost on the way.
Root storage: Grind the husks in a coffee grinder or blender, then powder the onions, potatoes, carrots and other root vegetables thoroughly with the resulting powder before storing.
Fight against harmful insects (except for spider mites): We fill a bucket of any capacity with dry husk approximately to the middle, crushing the husk a little, but do not ram it! Then carefully fill it with hot water so that the bucket becomes full, and leave it alone for a day. After this period, we drain the resulting infusion, filtering it either through a sieve, or through cheesecloth or cloth, dilute with water in a one-to-one ratio and start processing against harmful insects. Keep in mind that when treating different plants from pests, you need to take into account the nuances related to this particular plant. For example, when processing an apple tree from a moth, it is necessary to carry out processing after the flowering of the tree in the evening, while the air temperature should not fall below 15 degrees Celsius. The treatment must be repeated every week during the butterfly summer, which lasts about a month.
If you want to protect potatoes or tomatoes from the Colorado potato beetle or any plant from the harmful ubiquitous aphids, then simply spray the plants on any warm, windless clear evening, repeat the treatment after 5-7 days. Do not spare the infusion, spray the plants thoroughly, without leaving a single leaf dry.
Spider mite control: it requires a slightly different infusion than other pests. To prepare the infusion, you will need only 10 grams of husk per liter of water. Calculate the amount of water (and accordingly the husk) yourself, based on the area to be treated. Pour warm water over the husk and let it brew in a dark place for five days. Then strain and start processing. After 5 days (during this time a new portion will just be prepared), repeat the treatment. Processing can be carried out no more than three times.
Top dressing: pour 20 grams of onion husks into 10 liters of boiling water, mix, let cool. Start watering.
