Orange peel is very rich in valuable pectin substances, flavonoids and essential oils, and it contains even more vitamins E, C and A than the pulp! There is a lot in the crusts and increasing the winter hardiness of various garden crops, as well as taking the most active part in plant cellular metabolism of sodium, and there are also very, very many phosphorus with potassium vital for green pets!

You can safely add orange peel to the compost: it will form an excellent breeding ground for the full development of microflora, and will also actively scare away a wide variety of insects from the compost heap. And so that the peels begin to decompose as quickly as possible, they are washed and cut into small pieces.

Pest control

For some garden parasites, orange peels are a deadly poison. The fact is that the limonene contained in them destroys the protective coatings of various insects, leading to their inevitable death.

Spraying with orange peel infusion is excellent in the fight against aphids, thrips and spider mites. To prepare such an infusion, the peel removed from two or three oranges is poured with a liter of warm water, after which the container is placed in a dark place for a week - the composition should be properly infused. And after this time, the infusion is filtered and two more liters of water and a tablespoon of liquid soap are added to it. Plant leaves are treated with a similar mixture on both sides. As a rule, two or three such treatments are enough to get rid of aphids or thrips, and to get rid of a spider mite, they will have to be resorted to up to five to six times, maintaining a weekly interval between them. As for indoor plants, you can simply wipe them with a cloth abundantly soaked in infusion.

Orange peels will also serve you well in the difficult, but extremely important matter of scaring away representatives of the feline family or ants, because it is also an excellent natural repellent! To scare off cats, wet orange peels are laid out in the beds or dripped in the places most frequently visited by these animals. Or you can simply brew the crusts with boiling water and spill all the beds available on the site around the perimeter.

As for getting rid of ants, for this purpose, three medium-sized oranges are completely crushed in a blender, after which they combine the resulting mixture with a glass of water and go to spill the ant passages with the finished gruel paths. However, you can water the anthill itself with this composition - after a while, the worried insects will definitely go in search of a new place. True, this method does not give a long-term effect, so it does not hurt to take care of additional methods of protection.

Orange peels also attract beautiful butterflies! If you put a few fresh crusts on a plate and put this plate in the garden, in a few minutes you will be able to admire dozens of butterflies fluttering around it!
