Since January, caring for the garden for the summer resident and gardener does not end. It is in January that all plants are in a deep dormant phase. For this reason, it is advisable in the middle of the winter season to transplant large-sized trees together with a frozen clod of earth. True, such manipulations are rarely required. At the same time, from January, many daily and regular procedures in the garden begin
To begin with, the summer resident should carefully examine every corner of his site. It is especially important to check rockeries and rock gardens. Absolutely all plants planted here should be located under the snow cover. In winters with little snow, open areas often remain in flower beds and flower beds. They must be additionally sprinkled with snow. A shelter in the form of spruce branches can also serve as an option. If you leave such free space unattended, then the plants on it will simply freeze out.
It is worth noting that not all plants need snow cover during wintering. Fruit crops do well without it, because too heavy rainfall will damage the branches and change the shape of the crown.
Naturally, this does not bode well for the plant itself. To avoid such negative manifestations is simple: you need to shake off the snow from the branches. This is most important for decorative deciduous and coniferous trees. Snow near the boles needs to be additionally compacted. Then rodents and hares will not be able to penetrate the tree bark. Perennials should be compacted and planted for the same reason.
Often, it is in winter that gardeners observe bark burns. To avoid this problem, it is required to whitewash the trunk and bases of the "skeletal" branches. In the modern world, very often summer residents have artificially created ponds and reservoirs on their site. Sometimes commercial fish are launched there. In winter, they should be helped. This requires making holes in the ice so that air and oxygen get into the water.
In February, the affairs on the site do not decrease. Large trees and shrubs can also be planted at this point. It is then important to ensure that the holes cut in the ice in the ponds do not freeze again. Whitewashing of branches and trunks of trees can also be done in February.
In March, the approach of spring is already felt, but the snow, as a rule, is still lying and is not going to melt. Large trees can be planted this month as well. By the way, it is believed that it is the March landings that adapt faster and better at the new landing site. The lawn and ornamental crops are undergoing maintenance this month.
Roses in March are still under special cover. As soon as the first sunny days with warming appear, you can begin to open the shelter for the daytime to prevent the flowers from drying out. Care should be taken with other crops, as there is still a risk of severe frosts at night. Plants can be left open at night only if the temperature during the day rises above the minus five degrees.
Fertilization is required in March. Nitrogen products will be needed for both flower beds and lawns. They are scattered according to the indicated dosage, even if the snow has not yet melted. With thawed snow, nitrogen preparations are scattered directly over the soil, but after feeding, these zones must be thoroughly watered.
Almost at the end of March, pruning procedures for garden fruit trees should begin. Attention is paid in this case to daily temperature indicators, because the risk of frost may persist for a long time. Trees can only be cut if there is no such danger. When carrying out spring pruning, it is necessary to destroy dried, diseased and broken branches.
Sections need to be covered with a special garden pitch. The pruning time is selected depending on the age of the plants. Cutting too late can lead to additional problems. For example, the development of shoots is delayed here. The same applies to the root system. But this only matters for young seedlings, since pruning can be done later for mature trees.
Periods such as the end of the fall season and warm winters are not at all suitable for pruning. In this case, the plants are at risk of disease. In the spring, these crops will start to grow more slowly and will eventually yield lower yields.
