Practice shows that the acquisition of any product requires some knowledge. Let's talk about a topical issue in the dacha theme - about watering hoses, about their varieties, specialization, selection criteria

What to consider when buying a hose

It is difficult to find a countryside farm without a garden hose. Even if there is no pool, garden beds, targeted water supply is needed for flower beds, lawns, trees. You cannot do without this device in the house, in the soul, in the kitchen. Before buying, you need to know what function the hose will perform, the choice will depend on this.

One more point - in what conditions it is supposed to be used, how it is planned to be located. Perhaps you just lay it out along the beds for the whole summer or you will use it sporadically, which implies being in a rolled state and storing it in a comfortable environment. Or maybe the hose will be laid in a “heap” under the trees and dragged from place to place every day.

The pressure in the pipes, pressure drops, an equipped irrigation system, sprayers and a one-time load are of great importance.

Selection criteria for the quality of irrigation hoses

The fact of the strength of the hose depends on the quality of the material and the layer thickness. The most durable will be categories that have several layers of rubber (3-4 layers) and a reinforced thread. Such products are heavy, expensive and will last up to 20 years. The cheapest are plastic, they break at the folds and are not reliable.

The next point is the ability to withstand high pressure. Usually a 5 bar supply is sufficient in the garden area. It is also useful to inquire about the presence of an inner braid, which increases the safety margin, eliminates twists and kinks, and protects against deformation. Any hose should be flexible and easy to use.

If you do not want to change the hose often, then choose a type that is resistant to temperature changes. Plastic options in the heat (+40) deform and quickly lose their functionality. Also consider the environmental friendliness of raw materials.

Varieties of hoses for irrigation

A description of the main types of hoses will help you make the right choice.

Rubber withstands a pressure of 8 bar, durable. Resistant to UV rays, mechanical stress, does not deform, does not twist. Recommended for permanent watering lines. Does not change properties at temperatures from -30 to + 90C. Toxic and not used for drinking water. 10-year warranty.

Pvc has an inner fabric lining or reinforced braid, walls 1, 5-3 mm. It has good elasticity, is resistant to bending and twisting, brittle in frost, withstands 3 bar. PVC is a more resistant material and normally perceives temperatures from -20 to + 60C. With proper storage, it will last 3-5 years.

Nylon usually has a single layer, lightweight, flexible. It can withstand pressures up to 5 bar, deforms due to temperature contrast. Guaranteed operation for a year.

Thermoplastic suitable for water pipes with a pressure of 8 bar. Frost-resistant, not brittle, lightweight, flexible, not afraid of sunlight. It will lie down for year-round use within the temperature range of -50 … + 90C. Serves over 15 years.

Silicone not suitable for high pressure (bursts, stretches), operates at -20 … + 40C. Elastic, convenient for moving around the site. Deforms in the sun, it is recommended to use without attachments. Ideal for barrel filling, gravity irrigation.

Special hoses

Modern technology allows you to get away from the usual manual irrigation methods. Such systems are known as "hose-fog", "miracle-hose". Sold in a set with connecting elements, in different colors.

Spiral hose

A "drip hose" is available. This novelty is designed for drip irrigation and is a complete system. It is enough to connect to the water supply and turn on the water, humidification begins along the entire length of the hose. It is convenient to use in the garden, but the structural features imply the installation of filters so that the "pores" do not get clogged, systematic flushing is required.

Another perfection is the Sprinkler Hose. Creates foggy humidity in the surrounding area, the height of which is regulated by the level of the tap. The result is obtained only with a good water pressure. With a weak flow, instead of spray jets, there will be only moisture in narrow stripes along the hose.

The most compact and easy-to-use self-expanding option is the Xhose hose. Designed for use in a system with good pressure, in summer cottages it may not work. No effort required to set up and fold for storage. Spiral shapes of PVC hoses are gaining popularity.

Tips

When purchasing a hose, at the same time take the necessary accessories: nipples, sprinklers, angles, tees, etc. This will allow you to choose the right diameter and facilitate installation.

It will be more convenient to work with almost all models, having a reel for winding, the hose is better stored on such a device. Short lengths can be hooked. Leftover water should not be allowed in the winter. There is a simple way to drain: put the end on a raised crossbar (branch of a tree) and stretch the entire length of the hose through it.
