At the end of winter, bulbous plants begin to appear on store shelves: gladioli, lilies. There is a lot of time left before planting in open ground. How to keep early purchases from sprouting? Let's consider the technology using the example of lilies
Preparatory process
For successful storage you will need:
• coconut substrate;
• fungicide Extrasol or Maxim;
• plastic bags with a Zip-Lock fastening mechanism;
• hole puncher.
Soak a coconut briquette in 3 liters of water for 1-3 hours, depending on the quality of the substrate. The result is 6-7 liters of the finished product. For packaging, it is more convenient to use Czech freezer bags equipped with labels for notes, a zipper fastener. A hole punch is used to pierce the holes in the bottom of the package. Sign the grade.
Processing, storage
Open the package with lilies. Rinse with running water. Inspect each bulb for disease. Remove rotten scales to healthy tissue. The roots are cut, leaving 2-3 cm. It is important not to confuse the names, because wet lilies cannot be signed.
Planting material is soaked in fungicide for 30 minutes. Take precautions when working with the drug. Hands protect with rubber gloves, remove food from the table, restrict the access of small children.
Remove the bulbs from the solution. Spread the newspaper in 4 layers. Pour in coconut substrate. Wrapped in a cup. Fold in a bag in even rows. The kidneys are oriented upward.
They are placed in the vegetable tray of the refrigerator, setting the temperature with the regulator to plus 2 degrees. A thermometer is placed next to it for control. Higher temperatures will cause the bulbs to germinate prematurely. The running process is not stopped by any demotions.
The condition of the plants is checked weekly. If necessary, additionally moisten from a spray bottle with water.
Late purchases
Most gardeners postpone the purchase of planting material at a later date so as not to suffer with storage. At the same time, there is a danger in the massive demand for re-grading. If you want to have specific varieties in your collection, you will have to reluctantly master the methods of preserving "favorites".
Better conditions
Lilies do not like stagnant water at the roots. For safety net, a simple drainage is arranged under the bulbs. Broken shards from earthenware, red brick or expanded clay are poured at the bottom of the hole. Top covered with a layer of 5 cm of river sand. The bottom of the plant is placed on a baking powder.
For each type of lily, a certain reaction of the soil environment is needed:
• LA-hybrids, Asian - neutral or slightly acidic;
• Tubular - slightly alkaline;
• Eastern - sour, very loose structure.
Try to create the best conditions for your pets for long-term living.
Boarding time
Bulbs with dormant buds are planted after the snow melts to a depth of 2-3 diameters. They are not afraid of recurrent frosts under a thick layer of earth. Plants will start growing in favorable conditions for themselves.
Bulbs with a "green cone" when waking up early are placed in pots on the windowsill. They are taken out into the street after the onset of stable warm weather. Tall plants are planted obliquely, orienting the crown to the northeast.
Unplanned spring placement of bushes in the fall can be transferred to a permanent place.
The advantage of planting in early September:
1. More free time.
2. There is no need to store the material in extreme conditions.
3. Bulbs wake up in spring at a convenient time for them.
4. No worries about overexposure at home.
five. Simultaneous planting of all bulbous flowers (daffodils, tulips, hyacinths, crocuses). Creation of certain compositions.
The only drawback is the small range of products offered. Producers save all beautiful, promising varieties for the spring.
Knowing the peculiarities of storing and growing lilies, you can easily save your pets from losses. Create chic flower beds with modern varieties. Decorate the area with lush inflorescences with bright colors.
