A winter-hardy herbaceous perennial that blooms profusely for a long period, is a frequent visitor of European gardens. Its creeping varieties have gained popularity in the alpine slides, and the taller ones are used in the beds and in the middle planes of mixborders, decorating them with their green foliage and rainbow flowers
Genus Cinquefoil or Potentilla
The healing properties of some types of Potentilla, discovered in ancient times, gave the plant the name "Potentilla", which we often hear today in commercials promoting means to increase male "strength". But it is more customary to call the delicate abundance of flowers Cinquefoil.
Among the several hundred species of Cinquefoil there are annuals and perennials, herbaceous plants, as well as shrubs and shrubs. But more often you can find undersized, almost creeping, rhizome herbaceous perennial plants. Their low bushes are covered with finger or feathery leaves and an abundant carpet of simple or double single flowers of all shades of the rainbow.
Varieties of Cinquefoil

Creeping cinquefoil (Potentilla reptans) is a herbaceous creeping perennial, covered in summer with a carpet of yellow flowers. His agility often turns the plant into a weed that annoys gardeners.

Many garden forms have been bred with simple and double flowers of orange, purple, red, yellow colors; with gray-green or silvery leaves.

Cinquefoil fruticosis (Potentilla fruticosa) or Kuril tea (Dasiphora fruticosa) is a tall shrub reaching two meters in height. Numerous branches are covered with light green leaves and an abundance of glossy yellow flowers. Many hybrid varieties with a rich palette of flower colors have been created by breeders.
Growing
Cinquefoil loves open places, tolerates direct sunlight. Equally resistant to heat and cold. Easily tolerates winter frosts.
The soil needs a slightly acidic, fertilized, loamy, well-drained soil. Cinquefoil is planted in open ground in spring or autumn.
The soil must be moist. After planting in the ground, as well as during periods of drought, watering should be abundant and frequent. In spring, watering is combined with top dressing with liquid fertilizer, adding 15-20 ml of fertilizer per 10 liters of water.
Propagated by seeds, offspring, dividing bushes, layering, herbaceous cuttings.
Pests are rarely affected.
Usage
Cinquefoil is grown in the open field, making rabatki from it, using mixborders in the foreground and middle plans, on alpine slides and rocky areas.
It is also grown in pots, decorating balconies and terraces.
Maintaining the appearance consists in removing dry branches, wilted flowers. In shrubs at the end of winter, the aerial part is trimmed, too long branches are shortened.
