Supports for branches

At the end of summer, branches overloaded with fruits need our help. We use different methods for this. There are many options, but in order to solve the problem of a particular plant, it is useful to know what supports are available. Let's look at several designs and show you how to make a support

Rogatina

A spear support is the most common way to protect a branch from breaking during the period of abundant fruiting. You can easily find it in the nearby copse. The main thing is that the fork is wide, since a small angle will be tight for the branch and damage the bark.

Having purchased the necessary spear, remove the bark from the fork and wrap it with cloth. This will save you from hard friction and minimize damage to the branch. Sharpen the bottom end - this will help secure the support in the soil. When installing, choose the heaviest part and substitute the fork under it.

If there is no forest or it was not possible to find the desired value, such a device can be made. The stores have easy-to-use telescopic supports that are adjustable in height and are durable.

How to make a support for a tree. From unnecessary boards / beams, build a T-shaped structure. Wrap the top end with burlap. At the end of the season, it can be dismantled and the boards put back in place. If you plan to use this material next year, disinfect and dry.

The convenience and simplicity of such a support has its drawbacks. Any spear is not stable, with a strong gust of wind it can shift and fall. Installation on the ground interferes with cutting the grass, spoils the appearance of the site, and interferes with looking after the garden. To give stability, you can strengthen the "leg" with additional pegs. It is enough to attach 3-4 pieces of wood to the base of the spear.

Umbrella support or "Carousel"

The most convenient structure for supporting branches is the so-called "carousel". The system of such fasteners is durable and does not harm the fruit tree. And also does not spoil the design of the garden, does not interfere with garden work and is guaranteed to hold branches with fruits, regardless of the weather.

How to make an umbrella support? For work, you will need an iron pipe / profile or a strong pole, a rope (galvanized wire), rubber trimmings (cameras from a tire, bicycle), a metal ring. From rubber, according to the number of branches, cut the strips-clamps. Due to their plasticity, they will support the desired branches and will not damage them.

Install (drive into the ground) a pole near the tree so that it is half a meter higher than the tree. At the top, using rails, secure the ring with holes. Pass the wire / rope through and under the branches. Prepared rubber is placed under each.

A simplified version of the carousel is made without a mast post. The locking wheel is made of strong rubber and is fixed on the barrel.

Bush support

Branches of currants, gooseberries will not break with abundant fruiting, if you make them support. Garden centers have ready-made bush holders. You can make a stand for a bush yourself. There are many options and everyone uses a more acceptable one, for example, a bicycle wheel "on legs", aluminum tubes with holes.

A wire fence is quickly made: pegs are driven in, at the ends a hook from a bent nail through which the wire is threaded. All parts can be replaced with PVC tubes with fittings and adapters / tees.

Raspberry support

Row planting of raspberries should be neat, light and with free passages. The simplest system is made from poles and wire. At the ends of the bed, iron pipes are driven in or thick poles / beams are dug in. A wire is stretched between them in two or three tiers. The stems are tied to them or threaded between them. The height depends on the type of raspberry, usually 170-190 cm is enough.

Trellis for the garden

The most common type of support is a trellis. Used for various garden plants and flower beds (grapes, cucumbers, blackberries, actinidia, etc.). Suitable for fruit trees. One- and two-plane structures are made for the garden. They facilitate easy handling, improve illumination, and are compact.

A single-strip trellis is created in the same way as for raspberries: posts and a stretched wire between them. Two-plane is done if the plants do not need shelter for winter. Most often line up for vigorous species. They take up more space, but allow branches to grow well, provide optimal ventilation, lighting and care.

A two-plane trellis is made of two vertical supports, between which the plants are located. Supports are installed parallel or V-shaped (angle from the middle 45-60 degrees). A wire is attached between the supports (fittings, slats, poles).

By creating supports for fruit plants, you will get more harvest and prevent branches from breaking.
