The subtleties of growing

Ixias are tropical plants by nature. And the varieties of Ixia hybrid have inherited their characteristics almost completely. The culture prefers well-drained, fertile, moderately moist, light and neutral soils. Especially Ixia hybrid is demanding on soil fertility. It is not recommended to plant it on poor soils, because in such areas it is unlikely to form a large number of flowers and will please with active development.

Culture also places high demands on location. It should be planted in intensely lit areas, protected from cold squally winds that can break delicate stems. Shady areas, as well as places with stagnant cold air, are not suitable for growing Ixia hybrid varieties. Exactly, as well as areas located near trees and shrubs with a lush dense crown.

It is worth noting that Ixia hybrid has a negative attitude towards lowering temperatures. In warm regions, it is not forbidden to plant it at the end of autumn; in regions with cold winters, it is recommended to postpone the operation to spring. Otherwise, the corms will freeze out even under a layer of covering material. Before planting, the corms are stored in a room with a temperature not exceeding 10C. First, they are thoroughly cleaned of the earth, trying not to damage the kidneys, and then they are treated with a safe disinfecting agent and added dropwise.

Ixia hybrid planting is carried out in a previously prepared soil. It is thoroughly dug up, rotted humus, superphosphate, magnesium fertilizers and wood ash are added. Their number depends solely on the condition of the soil. The introduction of river sand is encouraged. This procedure is especially necessary for heavy soils. Corms are planted to a depth of 5-8 cm, keeping a distance of 10 cm. Compact varieties can be planted more closely. Immediately after planting the ridges, it is advisable to mulch with a thin layer of sand. No need to water. The first watering is recommended two weeks after planting.

Further care for Ixia hybrid is simple. Watering is carried out regularly, gradually increasing the amount of water used. Water should be used only warm and separated. During the period of bud formation, watering should be especially intense. Similar requirements apply to feeding. They must be systematic, otherwise the plants will not please with active growth and flowering. It is advisable to apply fertilizers every two weeks alternately - organic matter and minerals.
