Woolly Bukharnik (Latin Holcus lanatus) - a representative of the Bukharnik clan. Belongs to the Cereals family. It got its name "woolly" due to its botanical features, namely the presence of pubescence. In nature, the species is found in European countries, in northern Africa, in some countries in Asia. In nature, it occurs in pastures, near sewers, on wet soils.
Plant characteristic
Woolly Bukharnik is represented by perennial herbaceous plants endowed with velvety gray-green foliage. In the process of growth, it forms a lot of shoots. At the very base, there are white-pink offspring, they may have veins or stripes. The uvula (more correctly, ligula) reaches a length of 3-4 mm, it is characterized by a blunt tip and pubescence.
Inflorescences are represented by dense panicles or spikelets of purple color. The flower scales have hook-shaped awns that do not extend beyond the tips of the spikelet scales. The seeds are small, they are formed in large quantities, they are prone to self-sowing, because of which the plants quickly fill new territories. In addition to seed reproduction, woolly bukharnik reproduces by shoots and division of roots in nodules.
Purpose
Woolly Bukharnik is a malicious weed. He multiplies very quickly and conquers new territories, and he is not even afraid of drought. Flowers are pollinated by the wind. It should be noted that woolly bukharnik disrupts other ecosystems. It simply crushes the growth of other plants, thereby reducing their number. It is necessary to get rid of it in the garden area without fail.
