Amsonia Habrichta (lat. Amsonia hubrichtii) - a representative of the small genus Amsonia of the Kurtovaya family. In nature, it is distributed mainly in the southern and central states of the United States. Nowadays it is cultivated in many countries of the world, including Russia. It got its name in honor of the discoverer, namely L. Habricht. It belongs to perennials, is famous for its durability, and therefore is loved by flower growers and gardeners.

Characteristics of culture

Amsonia Habrichta is represented by perennial herbaceous plants with erect stems, which form compact bushes during the growth process that attract attention. The foliage of the species in question is rich green, needle-like, threadlike, rather narrow, gives the bushes a special fluffiness and lightness.

The flowers are blue, star-shaped; with proper care and favorable weather conditions, they form in huge numbers. Flowering comes at the end of May and lasts until about the first ten days of July, sometimes it blooms earlier, but after that it looks very attractive due to the greenery. True, if the faded inflorescences are not removed during the time, the decorative appearance suffers.

By autumn, the needle-like foliage of Amsonia Habricht acquires a golden and yellow color, which gives the bushes a special appeal. Golden bushes, in turn, decorate the garden and harmonize very well with the greenery that has not yet withered and the inflorescences of autumn flower crops. It should be noted that the species in question belongs to the category of resistant to pests and diseases, although in some unfavorable years or if the growing conditions are not observed, spots of different sizes are formed on the foliage, lethargy and early drying are observed.

Growing features

All species of the genus Amsonia are not whimsical plants, including Amsonia Habricht. The main thing is to choose for it sunny or semi-shaded areas with diffused light that have moderately moist soil. Moreover, it does not matter what kind of soil in the garden - be it loamy, sandy or sandy loam. On any, she feels good. However, it does not accept heavy clay without drainage, dry and waterlogged soils.

Of the care activities, irrigation plays an important role for Habricht's Amsonia. They must be carried out regularly, avoiding overdrying or waterlogging of the earthen coma. If you exclude watering, the plant will lag behind in growth and will not please with abundant flowering. Weeding and loosening are no less important for the normal development of the culture, they are recommended to be carried out as needed.

As already mentioned, Amsonia Habrichta is durable, therefore, it does not require frequent transplants. You can safely grow it in one place for up to 10 years or more. Even over such a long period, it will not lose its decorative properties. The only thing is to restrain its growth, so that nearby growing bushes do not form a thick and unsightly mass.

And do not forget about removing faded inflorescences. This process is important not only to prolong the decorativeness of plants until autumn, but also to prevent self-seeding. By the way, the species in question can be propagated both by seeds and by a vegetative method. In the second case, by dividing the bush. This process is as simple as two or two: just dig out a bush and separate it into several parts, and immediately plant it in the ground.

But the seed method is more laborious. If you do not sow seeds in the fall, you will have to carry out cold stratification. Whereas during the autumn sowing, the seeds will turn up to natural stratification, and in the spring, with the onset of warmth, the seedlings will appear together and rush into growth.
