Amsonia tabermontana (lat. Amsonia tabernaemontana) - a representative of the genus Amsonia of the Kutrov family. In nature, it is distributed in damp areas, including forests, located in the United States of America, but to a greater extent in the states of New Jersey, Florida and Texas. One of the most unusual species actively used in ornamental gardening. Differs in unpretentiousness and high decorativeness.

Characteristics of culture

Amsonia tabermontana is represented by perennial herbaceous plants equipped with erect stems, crowned with a huge number of narrow willow foliage, which has a grayish color. By autumn, the foliage takes on an incredibly beautiful golden color, which gives the garden a special zest. Therefore, this type is often used in autogenesis, otherwise autumn flower gardens. It will be an excellent ally for flowering crops, and will also hide the withered foliage of faded plants that cannot tolerate low temperatures.

The flowers of the culture under consideration are delicate blue, have a star-shaped shape. Flowering is observed from early to mid-May and lasts until June, although this factor largely depends on the quality of care and climatic growing conditions. Today on sale you can find several forms and varieties of amsonia tabermontana. For example var. salicifolia is famous for its blue, star-shaped flowers, endowed with a white neck.

Equally attractive is the form named var. montana. It has compact bushes covered with dark blue flowers and wider foliage than the main species discussed above. All forms and the main type are unpretentious, durable, will fit into any gardens, but especially into a garden made in a rustic style. Also, the culture is characterized by frost resistance and light-requiring, although it develops quite actively in a semi-shady area with diffused light.

Growing features

It is important to note that amsonia tabermontana is demanding on soil moisture. It is advisable to plant the crop on well-moistened areas, it will not tolerate dry and waterlogged ones. But the soil can be any - sandy, clayey or loamy. On heavy soils, the species in question feels defective, blooms poorly and develops slowly, often affected by pests and diseases. If the soil in the area is heavy, good drainage must be provided.

Caring for amsonia tabermontana is simple and takes a minimum of time. The main thing is to ensure regular and moderate watering. It is highly undesirable to allow drying out. Culture and systematic weeding are required, because they, in turn, take away from plants the lion's share of nutrients that are necessary for active growth and abundant flowering. Light loosening will also aid rapid growth.

Immediately after flowering, the flowers must be cut off, this procedure will protect the bushes from overgrowth and give a more well-groomed appearance. Too often it is not worth replanting amsonia, it grows well in one place for many years, and at the same time does not lose its decorative properties. And most importantly, the plants grow in moderation, it is easy for even the most active gardener to restrain its growth.

The culture can be propagated both vegetatively and by seeds. Seeds, in turn, are sown both in autumn and spring. Seedlings always appear amicably. The vegetative method involves reproduction by dividing the bush. This is the simplest and least expensive method that does not require special knowledge and skills. Even a beginner can handle this task. And the process is as follows: the bush is dug up with a shovel, divided into two or three parts, and then planted in a permanent place.
