Aloe variegated considered a highly decorative species, this plant has been known in culture since the eighteenth century. The homeland of the variegated aloe, or tiger and parrot, as it is sometimes called, is South Africa. This plant grows on heavy soils, sometimes on rocky and sandy soils. Actually the name tiger aloe got due to its amazing color, which immediately catches the eye.
Description
This plant is a perennial herb, the stem height of which can reach up to thirty centimeters. The stem is abundantly branching from its very base, where the formation of a rosette, consisting of leaves, occurs. In natural conditions, such rosettes consist of a huge number of leaves. In basal rosettes and on short stems, the leaves will be arranged in rather dense rows, which are twisted like a spiral. The leaves are fleshy, pointed and lanceolate, their length ranges from ten to twelve centimeters, and at the very base, their width may even be six centimeters. On the upper side, the leaves will be grooved, but on the lower side, they are scaphoid. The leaves will stretch towards the light, and their color is dark green, while the color is complemented by a purple tint and complemented by white transverse stripes, which consist of small white spots. But at the edges of all sheets are light thin stripes.
In length, flowers can be up to three and a half centimeters, and on peduncles their height can reach up to thirty centimeters. The perianth in its color can be either pink or bright red, complemented by green stripes, and inside it is painted in yellow tones. This aloe blooms from April to May. When watering variegated aloe, it is very important to ensure that there is no direct hit of water on the leaves, because from such moisture the aloe leaves can simply rot and die. It is important to remember that variegated aloe does not tolerate lime at all, the soil will need to be more fertile than other types of aloe require. On sandy soil, this plant is able to reproduce quite abundantly by means of root suckers. When such offspring reach about two centimeters in length and have already formed small roots, you will need to separate them from the adult plant.
Variegated agave belongs to a family called Xanthorrhea. This plant is very fond of the sun's rays, and in the summer it needs rather moderate watering, while the air humidity should remain at a low level. This plant is a leafy succulent.
Growing and caring
As for growing, experts recommend placing a pot with a plant on sunny windows. This flower can often be found in various offices and organizations. At home, variegated aloe is used to create incredibly attractive succulent gardens and rockeries. In its homeland, the maximum size of this plant can be thirty centimeters.
Young plants need an annual transplant, but older plants can be transplanted every two years. Transplanting should be carried out in more spacious pots, which will be low. This circumstance is due to the fact that variegated aloe has a rather powerful root system.
As for acidity, either neutral soil or slightly acidic soil is required. At the same time, the soil should consist of sod and leafy soil, as well as sand and fine expanded clay.
It is important to remember that variegated aloe should be attributed to the most unpretentious plants, therefore, in order for the plant to develop incorrectly, nothing has to be done at the root to care for the plant. It should also be remembered that, subject to waterlogging of the soil, the root collar of a variegated aloe can rot.
