This unusual shape of the fruit grew on the tree of the same name. Originally from the tropics, annona has recently taken root in the Russian open spaces as a houseplant. The divine aroma of its fruit will not leave you indifferent and will enrich the body with vitamins and useful microelements. The fruit has antibiotic properties, soothes the nervous system, destroys cancer cells without harming the body, as chemotherapy does
Spreading
Today, in nature, trees and shrubs of the annona plant grow in the tropical forests of Central and South America, in Africa. And forty million years ago, they grew here, on the island of Sakhalin, as evidenced by the findings of geologists.
Those ancient Annones long ago turned into coal and oil, but even today their descendants continue to delight us, comfortably settling in indoor containers.
Many names
The exotic fruit can be found under various names. These are: annona (scaly, prickly, netted), graviola, guanabana, sweet apple, sour cream apple, sausep.
Recently, Annona has gained particular popularity due to the emergence of information that its fruits are capable of destructively acting on cancer cells. It is remarkable that, by destroying cancer cells, the fruits do not have a negative effect on living normal cells of the human body.
Indoor cultivation
Annona is good in that it does not require a large tub, is unpretentious, rather compact. Having planted a seed in the ground, you will enjoy fragrant, tasty and healthy fruits in the third year of plant growing.
Although native to the tropics, annona does tolerate a little shading. But, of course, it is better to place it near a sunny window, and in summer, if possible, take it out into the garden or onto the balcony.
For home cultivation, Annona Murikata is suitable - the most unpretentious of the Annon. A beautiful evergreen tree that bears the greatest fruits.
They also grow "Annona squamosa" or "Sugar apple" at home. It is quite low in nature - up to 5 meters, and in a flower pot it grows up to 2-3 meters.
Sowing seeds
Seeds are sown in late winter or early spring, so that by winter the seedlings have time to stiffen a little and survive until spring without leaves, since the plant is deciduous. Seeds are planted to a depth of 1 centimeter. The soil should be light and well-drained. To make the seeds germinate faster, they are soaked in warm water for a day. In 2-4 weeks, shoots will appear if the temperature in the apartment is not lower than 25-30 degrees.
Annona is growing relatively quickly. You can carefully trim the plant to shape the tree. In favorable conditions, fruits appear in the third year. Of course, they will not be as large and tasty as they grow in nature..
Watering
The plant does not like drought. May shed leaves in dry soil.
In winter, when the tree has not yet dropped all the leaves, a little watering is needed. In the absence of leaves, the annona should not be watered until new buds appear on it.
Pollination
Everything would be easy in growing annona fruits, if not for the tricks with its pollination. The fact is that pollen on flowers ripens in the morning, and the pistil is ready to meet with it only in the afternoon. Therefore, it is necessary to collect the pollen in a paper bag with a brush so that it does not wake up by and in vain, and after dinner, after taking the bag out of the refrigerator, apply the pollen to the pistils with the same brush.
Tea with annona
If you grow Annona Murikatu at home, you can drink tea from its leaves. It acts as a sedative and also has a cooling effect.
Or you can buy ready-made green tea with sausep. It differs from regular tea in that it becomes even tastier when brewed again, and does not pop up to look at you in surprise. It has a delicious taste that you want to enjoy over and over again.
