You will not succeed in a classic miniature, but a tree with a height of 1-1.5 meters will be well perceived in an open space and will successfully decorate your territory.

Any ephedra will take on the shape of a bonsai if it is correctly formed and given the outlined contours by timely pruning and plucking. A seedling will require a bucket with holes at the bottom to drain the water. Drainage (a quarter of the height) of the volume is laid on the bottom. The container is dug in at the selected place and a pine tree or other frost-resistant conifer is planted in it. At the end of rooting and signs of active vegetation, in the second or third year, you begin creative work on shaping.

Conifers for garden design

If you want to highlight your site with the most beautiful and unusual conifers, you need to get acquainted with the varieties of this group in advance. Consider a few interesting species that are popular and available in garden centers.

• Kunnigamia is striking in its ability to change the color of needles. In summer, the tree is yellow-green, in autumn it acquires a bronze tint. Exotic look is given by flat, wide enough, twisted needles.

• Cryptomeria has soft long, bright green needles. The largest needles are in the Kristata variety (12 cm). It can grow in the southern regions up to 10 meters (for 15-20 years), in the middle lane no more than 2 m.

• Chilean araucaria is distinguished by its low-branched conical shape and leathery, triangular needles. It winters well, if the frosts are not strong, it can freeze under conditions below -25C.

• Thuja folded is a miniature plant ideal for topiary haircuts. A distinctive feature is the yellowish color and natural spherical shape.

• Ayan spruce fascinates with its bright pink cones. They have a lush shape, similar to a flower bud, grow vertically in the form of a bouquet.

• Fir Procera Glauk is notable for the size of emerald-colored upright fruits. The length of the cone reaches 30 cm.
