For lovers of coniferous trees, who do not like to wait long for the results of their labor, the Almighty created a genus of plants called "Pseudo-Suga". The record growth of representatives of this genus, adding 50 centimeters in height per year, a beautiful and dense crown, elegant cones will become a bright decoration of the summer cottage

Rod PseudoSuga

Like the seven wonders of the world, the Pseudotsuga genus has seven evergreen coniferous trees that amaze with their record growth. Such a tree, planted in a summer cottage, will outgrow its owners in three to four years. Sometimes the genus is called "Letsuga".

Like our usual pines, spruces and firs, representatives of the genus are resistant to low and high air temperatures. But in terms of growth rate, they are much ahead of them. At the same time, they are easy to care for and do not require special measures to maintain their beautiful appearance.

Varieties

Menzies' pseudo-slug (Pseudotsuga menziensii) - of the seven representatives of the genus, this species was most liked by Europeans, and therefore it can often be seen in parks and gardens in Europe. These are trees up to 60 meters high, although they are capable of growing up to 100 meters in height.

The core root system goes deeper over the years, strengthening the tree's resilience and helping to increase nutritional capacity. The pyramidal slender crown is formed by wide branches that extend from a smooth, brownish-gray trunk almost horizontally to the surface of the earth. Gray-green or dark green needles, spirally located on the branches, give the tree fluffiness and softness. Like Christmas tree decorations, oblong or egg-shaped elegant cones up to 18 centimeters long hang down. The seeds ripen in the first autumn. Equipped with a large wing, they fly freely from wide-opening cones.

False beetle gray-leaved (Pseudotsuga menziensii var. Caesius) is a variety of Menzies' pseudo-suga, which is considered the most resistant species. She has beautiful matte needles, iridescent in several shades. Above the needles are gray-green, and below it has a grayish-white stripe.

Large-bowed pseudo-slug (Pseudotsuga macrocarpa) - has the largest buds among its relatives. Grows in California. There are specimens that are several hundred years old.

Growing

The impressive size and rapid growth of the pseudo-slug determine its use, mainly in single plantings.

Loves sunny places, but some forms grow well in the shade. Moreover, in the spring it can be sunburned. The landing site must be protected from the wind.

The soil for planting is preferably fresh, deep and well-drained.

The tree is frost-resistant, easily tolerates drought and gas pollution in cities. Watering is required only for young seedlings and with prolonged drought.

She tolerates a haircut well, although, as a rule, this is not necessary. Only damaged and dry branches are removed. When two tops are formed at a young age, one is removed.

Most species are resistant to pests and diseases.

Reproduction

More often propagated by seeds, but this is a lengthy process. Therefore, it is easier to buy a small seedling from horticultural centers.
