Remember the folk tale, in which a dragon grows three new heads instead of one head? Do you think this is fiction? A fairy tale is a lie, but it contains a hint … of a dracaena! If your indoor tree has lost its decorative appearance over the years, is stretched out and looks like an ugly bald stick - cut off the top of its head! And in this place, several new shoots with fresh green palm leaves will soon appear
What to do when the dracaena stretched out to the very ceiling
Many growers are familiar with such a problem, when, after years, the flowers grow so much that the owners in their own house have little free space. And one of these "invaders" of space is dracaena.
Having appeared in your home as a modest low plant, after a few years the dracaena stems stretch out so much that they almost run into the ceiling. And what to do with such a plant?
If you find yourself in such a situation, then there is nothing to do - you will have to cut off the dracaena. Don't worry, nothing bad will happen to her. From the remaining stump, several young shoots will grow at once, and the dracaena will again become a neat compact plant with a lush dense "crown" of leaves. And use cut cuttings for flower propagation.
Ways to propagate dracaena by cuttings
There are several ways to propagate dracaena by cuttings. It all depends on how much the dracaena is stretched out, and how long the cut stems are at your disposal.
If the cut shoots are long enough, and you do not have the desire or patience to cut them into cuttings and wait for the buds to awaken, you can immediately put them in a vase of water and wait for the roots to appear. But be warned that this is not a quick process. It takes several weeks for the slices to root out.
Alternatively, you can immediately put the tops for rooting in the ground. It should be sufficiently loose, moisture-absorbing and breathable. Watering is done moderately so that the cuttings in the ground do not begin to rot. And to create more favorable conditions, it is not superfluous to cover the pots with the tops set for rooting with a bag.
You can put almost one tip on rooting, without a stem. Then the dracaena will grow for a long time in your bush-shaped pot. And use the remaining cuttings to propagate other specimens.
The dracaena stem is cut into cuttings approximately 15 cm long. They can also be rooted in different ways. The easiest one is to put it in a glass of water. The main thing is not to confuse where the cutting is up and where is the bottom. To do this, use this technique - make the lower cut at an oblique angle, and the upper one - straight. As a result, roots should appear on the lower cut, and the kidneys should wake up on top later.
If the cuttings are mixed, and now you cannot determine where they are up, and where they are down, all is not lost either. Instead of rooting in a glass of water, do otherwise. Just pour sand or perlite into the container. Then moisten it with water and place the cuttings on top. In this form, you will not need to wait for the roots to appear. Instead, buds will begin to awaken along the cutting, and after a while you will see small plants stretch upward. They will need to be separated from the cutting, and then planted in separate pots.
How to speed up the germination of a tree stump
Well, what to do with the stump that remained in the pot after trimming the dracaena? It is also possible to awaken the kidneys on it. But for this it is necessary to create favorable conditions. To do this, the stump cut must be filled with paraffin, and then wrap the top with moistened moss.
If there is no moss or paraffin candle in the house, you can do otherwise. Take a piece of heavy fabric, such as denim. Moisten this cloth and wrap it around the top of the stump. Then cover the top with a bag and tie tightly with string or elastic. Under the influence of moisture, the buds will wake up and new shoots will grow from the stump.

Dracaena: Your Indoor Pet Dragon
The name of the plant, translated from Latin, means "female dragon". It is difficult to find similarities with this fantastic creature in a houseplant. However, in its homeland, in hot tropical countries, dracaena reaches such gigantic proportions that, seeing it from afar, it becomes clear where this analogy came from. Of course, it will be inconvenient to keep such a giant at home. Therefore, you need to know how and when to transplant the top and reproduce the flower remaining in the pot
Tree Peony. Propagation By Stem Cuttings
Among gardeners, propagation by cuttings with stem parts of a plant is most common. For this purpose, green branches of the current growth or lignified branches of the last year are suitable
Hydrangea: Flower Propagation By Cuttings
In August, you can still propagate hydrangea by cuttings. And although the optimal time for these purposes is the end of June - the beginning of July, but if you adhere to some rules, and in the last month of summer it is also quite possible to prepare excellent planting material
The Subtleties Of Propagation Of Indoor Flowers By Cuttings
Propagating flowers by cuttings is easier than growing them from seeds. This technique allows you to quickly get a well-formed and flowering plant. Whereas when grown from seeds, not every flower is able to present with buds in the first year. This method of reproduction is called vegetative. Although, despite its simplicity, not everyone succeeds in it either. And all because different plants have their own developmental characteristics. Some cuttings take root well when they are cut from both the bottom and the top
Propagation Of Cacti And Succulents By Cuttings
Many amateur flower growers grow cacti, do not miss the opportunity to take a copy from friends, buy in stores. Green "thorns" look very attractive, cacti can charm no less than ordinary flowers. How can you independently propagate a cactus or other succulent plant at home?
