Planting rose hips
Rosehip is unpretentious, because even without the attention of the caring hands of the gardener, it will grow and bear fruit in natural conditions. But if our plans are to grow a beautiful productive perennial, it is worth worrying about satisfying some of its whims and needs.
Rosehips are recommended to take a place in the sun. In order for the plant to quickly take root and grow faster, it is advisable to fertilize the planting hole. For this purpose, plant humus can be used, as well as well-decomposed compost. This nutrient mixture must be thoroughly mixed with the soil, which will be covered with roots. After planting, the plant should be watered and mulched. Rosehip grows rapidly and very soon begins to bear fruit. You can harvest the crop already 2-3 years after rooting on the site.
Wild rose care
Rosehip care consists in watering and feeding. Too often, there is no need to moisten the soil. With a moderately rainy summer, this moisture will be enough for the bushes. But when a drought sets in, you can't do without the help of a gardener and you need to start watering.
Fertilizers are used a couple of times per season. Better to use organic. However, in the second half of summer, it is already possible to refuse feeding. This is the time for the ripening of the shoots so that they do not freeze in winter. And if you continue feeding, the bush can react with the growth of branches and the appearance of young shoots.
What a gardener should pay special attention to is pruning shrubs. The first two years after planting, the dog rose can not be disturbed. And in the third year of life, it is time to start pruning weak and drooping shoots to the ground. In the future, the branches are cut at a height of about 15-20 cm, and well-developed annual shoots are left - you need to choose about 5 of these.
In the meantime, the development of the pruned branches is monitored. When their height is about 70-80 cm, you need to trim the tops approximately to the width of your palm. This agricultural practice stimulates the growth of lateral shoots and has a positive effect on fruiting.
As the bush grows, you need to track the aging branches. As a rule, fruiting is best observed on 3-5 year old bushes. And in order to maintain the youthfulness of the dogrose, 6-year-old branches should be tried to be removed from plantings in time.
Such tricks allow you to maintain the decorative appearance of the shrub and get a high yield of medicinal raw materials from year to year, turning your hedge into a natural pharmacy. The bushes will bloom profusely, and from one bush it will be possible to collect about 5-7 kg of fruits.
Harvesting
The fruiting period depends on the variety and the growing region. It can stretch from August to November. But you should have time to harvest before the arrival of frost. When the rosehip freezes over, the content of vitamin C in its fruits is noticeably reduced.
The fact that the fruits are ripe is signaled by the orange-red color of the skin. To keep them longer, it is best to dry the collected medicinal material. Do not dry in the open sun. It is best to do this in the oven or on the stove. When the device for drying allows you to set the temperature, choose a mark at the level of 70-80 degrees. Leave in such a dryer for a couple of hours.
Qualitatively dried fruits can be stored for up to two years. They are kept in a cool, dark place.
