In the cultivation of cucumbers, problematic moments can arise at any stage of cultivation. Not only are they themselves very demanding on light, warmth and humidity of the environment, so look all the lashes will be covered with barren flowers, and if ovaries appear, then juicy sweet greens eventually acquire a bitter taste … What's wrong with cucumbers, and how to avoid these troubles?

Why are there so many barren flowers on the lashes?

It is useful for the gardener to know in advance that the abundance of barren flowers is provoked by such factors:

• sowing cucumbers in shaded areas;

• thickening of plantings;

• sowing fresh seeds from last year's harvest without the use of heating the seed.

Of course, having made all the above mistakes, it is almost impossible to fix them in the middle of the summer. However, it is in our power to help plants and artificially stimulate the formation of female flowers.

How to stimulate the appearance of feminine flowers?

Do not be tempted to remove barren flowers - they are essential for pollination. In addition, it will not cause the expected effect of replacing them with female flowers. And without the presence of male flowers, unfertilized future ovaries will turn yellow and fall off.

For ovaries to appear, you should pinch the main stem over 5-6 leaves. It is also not too late to shorten the shoot if the cucumbers have already started to grow. Only then is the tip pinched without taking into account the number of leaves. This technique stimulates the growth of lateral lashes, on which, in turn, more flowers with ovaries appear.

To get more ovaries - reduce watering

Another agricultural technique that contributes to the appearance of ovaries is short-term drying of the soil. During the drying process, you need to closely monitor the condition of the plants. When the cucumbers begin to wither, watering should be resumed. And so that the newly appeared ovaries do not experience a lack of nutrients, fertile soil is added under the plants and the beds are fertilized.

Fertilization and watering should be done in the evening in warm weather. If you do this in the morning, then drops on the plants on a sunny day can cause burns.

Why are cucumbers bitter?

Is it really necessary to help cucumbers in the formation of flowers with ovaries, if they appear in any case, and the question is only in time? But the prolonged development period not only delays the harvesting period, it also affects its quality. In particular, such fruits are more often than others bitter.

Why root the side lashes?

Gardeners can also speed up the ripening of zelents. To do this, the lashes are laid out in free places in order to pin them to the ground with arcuate twigs in the part where the leaf has an axillary shoot. This area is covered with moist soil. This technique will allow the lash to take root and enhance the nutrition of the plant.

If the harvested crop is irregular

The technology of picking cucumbers has one rule: it is necessary to remove the fruit so as not to pull the whip. Therefore, it is best to cut them off with a sharp knife.

During harvesting during the period of mass fruiting, you need to pay attention to the shape of the fruit. She can talk about what trace elements are missing in the soil. The lack of nitrogen is evidenced by the pointed upper part, where the flower was. A narrowed cucumber at the stalk and a spherical top indicates a lack of potassium.

These flaws can still be corrected by adjusting the addition of dressings:

• in order to increase the dose of nitrogen, the concentration of mullein and poultry droppings in organic fertilizers is increased;

• to increase the level of potassium in the soil will help the introduction of ash to the beds at the rate of about 1 glass per 1 m of the furrow.

Top dressing is applied once a week. The frequency of watering during fruiting depends on the condition of the soil in the garden.
