The cellar at the dacha is incredibly important and one of the most essential buildings in the dacha.
Self-made wines, various jams, pickles, fruits and vegetables - all this requires a separate storage space. Blanks for the winter also need to be stored somewhere. Building a cellar is a rather difficult task, which should be approached very carefully. No other buildings in their properties are capable of replacing all the advantages of the cellar.
Cellar advantages
A number of undoubted advantages include, first of all, all the design features, which allows you to always maintain cool temperatures, even at a time when especially hot weather reigns outside. The special ventilation that prevails in the cellar ensures a constant supply of fresh air. Daylight will never penetrate the cellar, which in some cases is very important for storing many products.
Types of cellars in the country
It should be noted that there are three main types of cellars: buried, semi-buried and above ground. These types are the most common. The main criterion to be guided by will be the place where the groundwater is located on the site. Provided that the waters are located very close to surfaces, then an above-ground cellar will be the solution. When the waters are very deep, then the other two cellar options are suitable. At the same time, do not forget that buried and semi-buried cellars cannot be built without concrete and brick.
Many gardeners note that fully buried cellars will be the most effective. If you choose a different type of cellar, then it should be borne in mind that the temperature in them can vary greatly in different seasons of the year.
You can also build a so-called mini-cellar. For this purpose, the most ordinary bathtub, which you were already going to send to the expense, is suitable. Such a bath is buried in the ground and covered with a wooden shield. Actually, this is exactly what a mini-cellar looks like.
How to build a cellar in the country?
The construction of each cellar takes place individually, many people have their own preferences, however, the main stages of construction will be the same in any case. First of all, you should start preparing the soil. Then the dimensions of the cellar are determined. In this case, one should keep in mind both the indicators of the wall thickness and the place that will be used subsequently for waterproofing. After that, the soil is cleaned of all plants and a hole is dug, the depth of which is in direct proportion to the selected type of cellar. It is also worth remembering that in the case when groundwater is in close proximity, you should add about forty centimeters more to the wall marking.
The next item will be the processing of the base of the cellar. Here it is necessary to lay sand, as well as a waterproofing layer of roofing material or crushed stone that was previously impregnated with bitumen. Then a mixture of straw and clay is laid. This mixture will have to dry for at least 24 hours. After that, the concrete floor has to be made.
The third stage will be the construction of the walls of the cellar. Many people prefer either wood, concrete or brick. It should not be forgotten that the tree must be treated with an antiseptic, film and roofing felt without fail. The concrete will have to be plastered on both sides. In the event that you are working with wet soil, then you should also make a clay pillow.
Then the construction of the floor begins. This should also include the choice of the location of the ventilation pipes. If you are building a cellar with full depth, then the erection of the ground part, which should be much wider than the cellar, will also be necessary. Such a ground part is something like a barn located under the cellar.
The construction of semi-buried and above-ground cellars is completed by sprinkling with earth. For this purpose, the soil that was previously dug is needed. Shelves are attached at the very end of construction, if necessary.
