Ornamental flowering shrubs are an adornment for any modern garden and cottage. They not only modify the shape of the site and give a good mood, but also make the color palette of the garden rich and saturated. Flowering shrubs are great for creating hedges, rock gardens, single and group plantings, they are often used for zoning a site. Flowering shrubs attract the views of others, along with trees and flowers, they create a general spatial perception of the garden as a single composition
In order to create continuous flowering in the garden, many owners of garden and summer cottages grow several types of ornamental shrubs at once, blooming at different times. This approach allows you to preserve the enchanting beauty and amazing aromas throughout the gardening season.
With the arrival of warmth and the complete melting of the snow, magnificent forsythia (or forsythia) pleases with its flowering. It is a primrose shrub 1-3 meters high, with bright yellow bell-shaped flowers blooming earlier than the leaves. It looks very attractive against the background of a dull landscape. Forsythia is a frost-resistant plant, shade-tolerant and undemanding to the soil. Caring for forsythia does not cause much trouble, it only needs watering, pruning and protection from pests and rodents. The shrub got its name in honor of the famous Scottish gardener William Forsaia, it was he who brought this plant from China to Europe.
In early spring, the equally beautiful Japanese quince (or chaenomeles) attracts the attention of others. The plant is a shrub 80-120 cm high, with large flowers of pink, white or bright red. Quince blooms in April-May. In September-October, the fruits ripen, they are edible, fragrant, but have a sour taste. Often the fruits of the shrub are used to make stewed fruit, preserves and jams. Quince is very demanding on soil and sunlight.
Weigela blooms at the end of May. It is a sprawling shrub about 70-80 cm high, with purple-red or pink bell-shaped flowers. Weigelu is used to create hedges, rock gardens, single and group plantings. The shrub is shade-tolerant and not picky about the soil. It was named after the German botanist Christian Ehrenfried.
Deytia begins to bloom in early June. The plant is a shrub 0.5-1.5 m high with pink, purple, white or purple flowers, collected in inflorescences. Currently, varieties with double flowers have been bred. Deutzia is distinguished by abundant and long flowering, but its flowers do not have a scent. The shrub is shade-tolerant and not picky about the soil, it is used in the design of borders, as well as in single and group plantings. Among Russian gardeners, the most common action is star (or rough), imported from China.
In June, Japanese kerria is fragrant. It is a shrub 1-2 m high with golden yellow flowers resembling roses in shape. In diameter, kerria flowers reach 4-5 cm. The plant is not demanding on the soil, it is used to decorate fences, paths, walls of houses and other buildings. Kerria was named after Scottish collector and gardener William Kerr. The variety of kerrias "Pieniflora", which has large double yellow flowers with an orange tint, is very popular among gardeners.
In July-August, hydrangea conquers with its flowering. The plant is a shrub 1-3 m high, with white flowers collected in spherical inflorescences, the diameter of which is 10-15 cm. Hydrangea is frost-resistant, unpretentious, prefers fertile soils with acidic pH. It is bad for drought, which means that it requires regular and abundant watering. Important: all parts of the plant are poisonous, so you should be very careful when caring for a shrub, especially when pruning.
Until late autumn, shrub cinquefoil (or shrub cinquefoil) fascinates with its beauty. It is a shrub 1-1.5 m high, with pale pink, white, orange, red or yellow flowers. It is used in the design of rock gardens, borders, as single and group plantings. Cinquefoil is unpretentious, frost-resistant and not demanding on the soil; it needs to be pruned once every three years.
