Eschscholzia - flower culture; a genus belonging to the Makov family. The native land of Escholzia is North America. Currently, the genus includes about a dozen species. The culture received its name in honor of I. F. Eshsholts (famous botanist).

Description

Escholzia is represented by annual herbaceous plants with stems up to 50 cm high, covered with a bluish bloom. The stems bear bluish-green dissected petiole foliage. The flowers in the culture under consideration are of medium size, single, cup-shaped, depending on the variety, they can be either simple or double. The color of the flowers is diverse, there are snow-white, creamy, pink, purple, yellow and other colors. The flowers of the culture show their beauty for only a few days, however, a lot of them are formed on the plant, which does not affect decorativeness. Flowers close late in the evening. Flowering culture is long, almost all summer.

Features of cultivation

Escholzia is a sun- and heat-loving plant, it feels best in open areas with protection from cold winds. It does not put forward special requirements for the composition of the soil, but does not tolerate damp, acidic, heavy and saline soils. Eschsholzia is frost-resistant.

The subtleties of reproduction

Escholzia is propagated by seeds. The seeds can be stored for up to three years. Sowing is carried out in either spring or autumn in the ground. In the second case, shelter in the form of foliage or peat is required. A transplant is destructive for plants, they may not take root in a new place. You can sow escholzia in peat pots.

Seeds are sown to a depth of 0.3 cm. In the phase of five leaves, thinning is performed, the escholzia does not like tightness. The optimal distance is 25-30 cm. Often the escholtia is self-seeded; in the spring, many seedlings are formed on the site of last year's cultivation. The only thing is thinning is required.

Care procedures

Caring for an eschscholzia is not difficult at all. The culture needs systematic irrigation without waterlogging. Watering is carried out in the evening. Also, the culture requires weeding and protection from pests and diseases in the form of preventive treatments. Faded inflorescences are removed, this approach will increase the decorative properties and prolong flowering. It is imperative to fertilize with mineral fertilizers during the summer.

Application

Escholzia is a flowering plant that will perfectly fit into any gardens. It is suitable for decorating various types of flower beds, including alpine slides, flower beds and a rabbit.

The plant fits harmoniously into mixed groups. Dwarf shapes are ideal for decorating porches and garden paths. Wildflowers are excellent allies of the plant.
