Growing conditions
Violet is a light-loving plant, prefers sunny areas. It grows well in partial shade. Soils are desirable well moistened and drained, with a rich mineral composition. The rest of the violet is an unpretentious culture, its cultivation does not cause much trouble for flower growers.
Reproduction and planting
Violet is propagated by seeds and green cuttings. The first method is the most common among florists. The culture is grown most often through seedlings. Sowing is carried out in early spring in seedling boxes filled with soil substrate.
Seedlings dive at the stage of two true leaves. The optimum temperature for the growth and development of seedlings is 15-20C, at temperatures below 10C the plant stops developing. You can sow violets in open ground before winter.
Less commonly, the culture is propagated by green cuttings. Perennial overgrown bushes rejuvenate, and its young end shoots with 2-3 nodules are cut and rooted in moist soil in the shade. This procedure is carried out from May to July. In autumn, rooted cuttings are planted in a permanent place, for the winter they are covered with peat or fallen leaves for insulation.
Care
Violet is a moisture-loving plant that needs regular and abundant watering. Also, the culture requires timely weeding, loosening and fertilizing with mineral fertilizers. The faded flowers are periodically removed. For the winter, plants are mulched with peat.
Application
Violet, or pansies, are widely used in the design of mixborders, group plantings, flower beds and alpine slides. Some varieties are used as ampelous plants. Violets are also grown on balconies in wooden or plastic boxes. Miniature varieties look good in rocky compositions. Fragrant violet is often used to decorate tree trunks. The culture is ideally combined with Volzhanka, Rogers and garden geraniums.
