Description of large plantain

Large plantain is a perennial herb, endowed with broad-ovate basal leaves, which will be long-petiolate. The height of the peduncle of this plant will be about fifteen to thirty centimeters, such a peduncle will be naked, and it also carries a thick coconut, which in turn will consist of brownish flowers. The flowers of the plantain will be small in size, they sit one by one in the axils of the bracts. The fruit of this plant is a multi-seeded capsule, and its seeds will be angular in shape and brown in color.

The flowering of large plantain occurs in the period from May to September, while the seeds ripen around the month of August-September. Under natural conditions, this plant is found on the territory of all regions of the European part of Russia, Crimea, Ukraine, the Caucasus, Moldova, Belarus, Central Asia, Okhotsk, Amur and Kamchatka regions of the Far East, Western and Eastern Siberia. For growth, the big plantain prefers the banks of reservoirs, garbage places near housing, wastelands, glades, forest meadows, fallow lands, the edges of crops, clearings, forest roads, glades and places near shrub thickets.

Description of the medicinal properties of large plantain

Large plantain is endowed with very valuable healing properties, while for medicinal purposes it is recommended to use the roots, leaves, inflorescences, seeds and juice of this plant.

The presence of such valuable healing properties is recommended to be explained by the content of large carotene, vitamin C, mucus, bitter and tannins, potassium, saponins, resin, protein substances, sterols, invertin and emulsion enzymes, essential oil, sorbitol, mannin, phytoncides, and flavonoids. The seeds of this plant will contain, in turn, steroids, oleic acid, saponins, mucus, fatty oil and carbohydrate plantateosis.

This plant is endowed with a very valuable analgesic, antiulcer, wound healing, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, anti-allergic, hypotensive, hemostatic and expectorant effect. An infusion prepared on the basis of plantain leaves will help to liquefy, dissolve and remove phlegm that is released when coughing. In addition, such an infusion will increase the efficiency and the hemoglobin content in the blood.

Locally, this plant is used for various ulcers and wounds: they will heal more quickly, and in addition to this, there will be a hemostatic, bactericidal and anti-inflammatory effect.

Aqueous preparations based on the leaves of this plant have the ability to exert a regulatory effect on gastric secretion: with hyposecretion, excitement will occur, while with hypersecretion, a decrease will occur. Actually, this anti-inflammatory effect is achieved due to vitamin B, carotene and polysaccharides. Scientific medicine uses drugs based on this plant for dyspepsia, kidney disease, gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer. Plantain leaf juice is used for atherosclerosis, hypertension and acute gastrointestinal diseases.
