Early May. Only yesterday the last snow came down from the beds, melted and seeped into the soil to give the first spring flowers their fill. Primrose, kandyks, snowdrops bloom in the fields. And in my flower garden of strong green low-growing leaves, tightly packed into a friendly flock, a red daisy opened its petals on a strong straight short stem, as if a light had flashed in a green bowl
Myths and legends about daisies
So many different myths and legends that daisies are awarded, probably no other flower has. Daisy is associated with life and death; using her delicate petals, they guess "loves - does not love …"; snow-white flowers are compared with purity and innocence; and the "Flower Horoscope" characterizes her as a homebody, pragmatist and lover of "play it safe".
But, no matter what they say about her, she appears in the spring as a bright spot against the background of early white-yellow daffodils and blooms all summer, unlike the narcissistic handsome man, whose wilted flowers must be removed in June so as not to spoil the general appearance of the flower beds.
Unpretentious and winter-hardy daisy
I sowed daisy seeds in the fall and, to be honest, completely forgot about them. In the spring, running past one of the flower beds of my summer cottage, I noticed a bright red spot on it, puzzled that it could blush there against the background of bare spring earth. How surprised I was to find the fearless daisy. She proudly held her elegant hat, surrounded by admiring strong knights - juicy green leaves.
The seeds survived the cold winter perfectly without any additional shelter, warmed only by the thickness of the white snow. The soil in this flower bed is loamy, loose. In addition to flowers, it is very fond of growing snowy - grass, which I considered an annoying weed. Dreaming helped me to loosen the soil, letting out its branched roots throughout the flower bed, periodically ruthlessly removed by me along with its tops. This winter, I read that snake is a very vitamin herb, young stems and leaves of which can be added to salads, as well as stew instead of white cabbage. Even if you managed to keep fresh cabbage in the cellar, it has already lost some of its useful qualities by the spring. I am going to enrich my diet this spring with despair.
Perennial beauty
The daisy, like some of her sisters in the Astrov family, is a perennial plant. Most often they are grown as a biennial crop. Then the daisy flowers are large and bright. If it grows longer in one place, then the flowers become discolored to white-pink and become smaller.
Daisies are very unpretentious, they can easily transfer the transplant to another place at any time, even during flowering. But it is better to divide the bush in August, when the plant has faded. The bush is dug up, almost all the leaves are cut off, the roots are shortened. Divide it into several parts and seat it in new places. If you plant the bushes in spring, you need to carefully separate the side shoots with leaves and roots and root them in moist and loose soil. Daisies do not tolerate drought, they either become small or stop growing altogether. Seeds can be sown in early spring, summer or fall.
It was a few days before the cold weather, but my daisies continued to bloom. It was a pity to give them to the death of frost. I dug up some of the most beautiful bushes and planted them in a plastic cake box. And they delighted me for a long time with their flowering in a city apartment.
Bouquet of daisies
Currently, many varieties have been bred with large flowers (up to seven to eight centimeters in diameter) and relatively long peduncles (up to thirty centimeters). Bouquets are made from such daisies. People born under the constellation "Gemini" will be happy with such a bouquet, this is their flower. And the person who gives you a bouquet of daisies deserves attention and reciprocity.
