Along the way, with the already familiar flowers, I bought a bag of seeds in the store that does not tell me anything "Lavatera". When the bushes grew up and put on a floral outfit, I fell in love with the lavender. It combines such diverse qualities as tenderness and stamina, modesty and a riot of colors, unpretentious care and generosity of abundant flowering

What is hidden in your name

For myself, I deciphered the mysterious name as follows:

"Lava" - love, "tera" - earth = love for the Earth. The flower loves our planet so much that it came to this world to beautify it even more.

But everything turned out to be much more prosaic: it was Karl Linnaeus who continued his mission of perpetuating the names of his colleagues, giving the flower the surname of the Lavater brothers from Zurich, who studied nature and man.

Ordinary people who have not read Linnaeus's classification call the plant "Wild Rose", like its relative, Mallow. The flower also has, as they say, the "Russian" name "Hutma", although this word does not resonate with anything "Russian" in me.

Landing Lavater

I will make a reservation that there is a one-year, two-year and long-term lavater. All species are propagated by seed. Planting is very easy because the seeds of the lavater are large enough.

If you want to see the blooming lavatera already in early June, then you will have to sow the seeds in early April, that is, through the seedlings. Since not everyone has enough space to grow seedlings, you do not have to bother, and in early spring, throw two or three seeds into holes spaced about 30 centimeters from each other in the place where you are going to grow beauty. Do not forget that the Lavater comes from warm regions, and therefore loves open areas to the sun. The plant is not afraid of frosts up to minus three degrees.

In a week, the lavatera will delight you with friendly shoots. The unpretentiousness of the flower does not negate the timely watering and feeding at an early age.

Lavater is not demanding on soils. Moreover, on infertile soils, it does not seek to pull out branches, but grows as a compact bush, abundantly and continuously flowering. But the looseness of the soil is encouraged so that its powerful roots can breathe freely.

Flower for lazy and business people

Flower care is minimal. Lavatera doesn't like wet soil, so don't be overly watering. But, if the drought lingered in your area for a long time, it requires abundant regular watering.

Rare top dressing (once every 1, 5-2 months) is needed on very poor soils.

In order for flowering to be abundant, it is necessary to remove outdated flowers.

The richness of the palette

Lavatera is generous in colors: from the purest whiteness to pink of various saturations, up to carmine. There are two-tone women of fashion. Looks good if you plant a row, alternating colors.

The varied heights of the bushes, from 30 centimeters to one or two meters, turn the lavater into a convenient tool for forming a beautiful flower garden. Lavatera looks good with neighbors of blue-purple colors (delphinium, sage, irises). She will decorate the suburban area, sitting in a separate bush, or revive the paths of the garden in the form of a rabatka.

Lavater can be grown as a houseplant in pots.

Pests

The leaves of the plant can be attacked by rust fungi that settle on their back. They feed on living plant cells, disrupting the metabolism and water balance of the plant. The leaves begin to brown, dry out, the growth decreases.

The disease is local in nature, therefore, it is necessary to remove the places affected by fungi.

ethnoscience

I didn't check it myself, I just love the lavender, like a delicate flower, but they write that it also heals.

Lavatera roots in collaboration with other substances are used as an anti-inflammatory, expectorant.

The leaves are used in the manufacture of ointments that treat abscesses, boils. For these purposes, you can use some fresh leaves, crushing which, attach to the abscess.
