Why do branchy roots grow?

Damage is caused by:
• long keeping of germinated seeds before planting;
• late thinning, removal of weeds in adulthood;
• at the first stage of development, rare watering, alternating with drying out of the soil;
• pests (bear, carrot fly, May beetle, wireworm);
• earth-moving animals (mice, moles);
• acidic heavy clay or stony soil;
• top dressing with potassium chloride;
• introduction of fresh manure, lime directly under the carrots in the spring;
• old granulated seeds (during germination, the root rests against the "shell", is deformed).
Preventive measures:
1. Application of fresh organic fertilizers, liming under the predecessor, one year before the planting of the main crop.
2. Top dressing with potassium sulfate forms.
3. Pest control with the help of "Iskra", "Fitoferm", "Inta-Vir" preparations according to the instructions. Extermination of earth-moving rodents.
4. Improving the mechanical composition of the soil. Application of rotted manure, compost, humus, river sand on clay structures.
5. Do not buy granulated seeds over 2 years old.
6. Timely watering, sowing, thinning, weed removal in the "thin thread" phase.
7. Adding a "lighthouse" crop to seeds for early processing of row spacings.
Why do root crops crack?
Most gardeners visit the country only on weekends. During a drought, the roots do not receive moisture. The cell sap of plants becomes viscous, thicker, membranes are drawn inward.
The owner of the plot arrives, begins to intensively water the beds. The cells do not have time to process large volumes of water, the walls burst, causing cracks in root crops. The same happens during prolonged rains at low air temperatures on ready-to-harvest products.
Excessive feeding with nitrogen substances leads to active growth, the tissues are loosened. Small changes in moisture will cause rupture.
The heavy clay soil prevents the penetration of roots into the depths. When pressured from all sides, cracks form on the product.
Prevention methods:
1. Install an automatic drip irrigation system on the beds. Every day, plants will receive an even amount of moisture without being stressed by fluctuations.
2. In case of prolonged drought, a single dose is small. Repeat the procedure several times every 10-12 hours until complete saturation.
3. Loosening after watering, mulching between rows with sawdust, straw cutting, peat, will close the evaporation.
4. Neighboring crops (green, early cabbage), lovers of moisture, will take the excess in the rainy summer from carrots.
5. Introduce nitrogen at the initial stage of growth, then use phosphorus-potassium fertilizers. Eliminate fresh manure.
6. On heavy soils, build bulk ridges of loose fertile soil with a height of at least 30 cm. Add sand or peat. Grow varieties with a short underground part (Chantane, Parmex, Parisian carotel).
7. Harvest carrots 3-4 days after the end of the rains, in dry weather.
