Depending on the height of the graceful stem, helipterums resemble either multi-colored daisies or daisies. But the petals of the inflorescence wrapper are not soft and tender, but thin and rustling, as if it were not a flower, but a collection of insect wings
Although they look like daisies, but still not daisies
Among the helipterums, there are herbaceous plants, tender dwarf shrubs and shrubs. Although in their homeland, in Australia, they are perennial plants, in our gardens you often meet their annual counterparts.
Slender dry stems are covered with alternate leaves with light pubescence. Small inflorescences-baskets (up to 3-4 cm in diameter), resembling chamomile from a distance, stay on slender stems for a long time. White, yellow, pink, red tubular flowers form a round core surrounded by several rows of dry, filmy scales of the envelope.
Some plant species
•
Helipterum Humboldt (Helipterum humboldtianum) is a rather tall (up to 50 cm high) herbaceous annual plant with linear pubescent leaves. Its large (7-8 cm in diameter) yellow inflorescences appear from June to September, emitting a faint aroma. As it dries, the yellow color turns to green.
•
Helipterum abundantly flowering (Helipterum floribundum) is a low-growing plant (up to 30 cm high). To match the height, it has three-centimeter linear leaves and two-centimeter in diameter absolutely white baskets-inflorescences.
•
Helipterum Mangls or Rodant Mangls (Helipterum manglesii / Rhodanthe manglesii) is a medium-sized (up to 40 cm high) herbaceous annual dry-flowering plant. This type of helipterum is widespread in culture. Its leaves are elongated and colored green-blue. The yellow median flowers of the inflorescence are surrounded by white, pink, red or lilac membranous scales of the envelope. The diameter of the inflorescences is up to 4 centimeters, they bloom from June to September.
•
Helipterum pink or Acroclinum pink (Helipterum roseum / Acroclinium roseum) is a tall (up to 40-60 cm high) herbaceous annual plant. Elongated and pointed leaves of a dark brownish green color. Its semi-double pink inflorescences bloom in July-August. Flowers of the "Mixed" variety can be of various colors.
Growing
The plant prefers sunny places, but blooms poorly in the shade and lags behind in development. At the same time, it is characterized by cold resistance. From the end of April, the plant can be planted in open ground, placing the seedlings at a distance of 15-20 centimeters from each other.
Gelipterum loves slightly acidic sandy loam soils, well cultivated and fertilized with organic matter. During the spring-summer period, the plant is fed with a complex mineral fertilizer once a month, combining top dressing with watering. Regular watering in spring and summer does not need to be brought to stagnant water, which the plant cannot tolerate.
Reproduction
When propagating through seedlings, seeds are sown in March. Sowing can be carried out directly into open ground in April.
Helipterum does not tolerate transplanting well, therefore, the seedlings should be handled carefully, or the seedlings should be grown in separate cups.
Usage
Helipterum is grown in the open field, planting a plant in any type of flower beds, making curbs for garden paths and bordering flower beds from them.
Compact varieties of Helipterum profusely flowering and Helipterum Mangls can decorate an alpine slide, and are also used as a pot culture.
To maintain the appearance of the flower garden, wilted flowers and damaged parts of the plant are removed.
Thin flower stalks with light inflorescences are great for cutting in winter bouquets. Flowers for these purposes are cut at a time when they have not yet fully blossomed, otherwise the scales of the wrapper will deform (bend) and spoil the appearance of the flower and bouquet. Cut flowers are dried in a shaded cool place, hanging them down with inflorescence baskets.

Dry Rot Of Sunflower Baskets
Dry rot of sunflower baskets is found in almost all regions where this crop is grown. This attack is especially harmful in years with hot and dry summers. Dry rot appears, as a rule, after flowering, when the seeds begin to fill and ripen. And its harmfulness lies mainly in the deterioration of the marketable and sowing properties of seeds - their fatty acid composition is noticeably deteriorating, and there is also a significant decrease in oil content. All the seeds are stowed
