Sometimes you really want to decorate rooms with flowers that do not have proper lighting, for example, a bathroom, a corridor, a workshop that has no windows. But there are houseplants that feel comfortable in such conditions. They will be able to grow beautifully and even bloom with minimal participation of the sun's rays in their life. Which of them are the most hardy and not whimsical? Here's a small list:
1. Aspidistra high (Aspidistra Elatior)
These plants were brought to our country from Japan. They grow well in places with a lack of natural light. Aspidistra (translated as "snake index") is a leathery tropical plant that easily tolerates the presence of dust. It will not die from heat, cold or drought, it is able to spend the winter in garages and basements without harming its health. The soil in which the aspidistra is planted should be moist, but not too moist. It is recommended to feed her with fertilizers every four months.
2. Spathiphyllum or "Female flower", "Flower of female happiness" (Spathiphyllum)
It is native to the tropical regions of the South American continent and Southeast Asia. These indoor flowers grow up to 50cm in height and bloom throughout the year with beautiful white flowers in the shape of a half-bell, like a calla. They perfectly filter the air in the room and more efficiently, unlike other crops, they purify the air from substances harmful to human health - formaldehyde, benzene and carbon dioxide. This plant prefers shady areas and uniformly moist soil. Fertilizers are best applied to the soil in winter once every six weeks.
3. Sansevieria or "Mother-in-law's tongue", "Pike tail" (Sansevieria trifasciata)
The leaves of the plant have a pointed tongue shape and are painted with green stripes, reminiscent of the skin tone of a snake. The plant does not die in the shade or in the sun. It will forgive you even if you forgot to water it. It is recommended to put it in a bathroom or in a dark corner. The plant will perfectly decorate any interior. It is best to fertilize the soil during the growing season, but not during the winter.
4. Chlorophytum (Chlorophytum)
The plant is not picky and can grow in rather low light conditions, and it does not need to be watered as often. Fertilizing the soil in which it is planted is best in the summer, once a week. If the plant receives a lot of light, its leaves begin to turn brown. In this case, it is recommended to move it to a shady place.
5. Scindapsus (Epipremnum pinnatum, Scindapsus aureus)
It is a popular houseplant that prefers to grow in bright, indirect light, but will not die in low light. In case the scindapsus is exposed to a lot of light, it loses its distinctive marble feature. The plant prefers moist soil. For the winter, they need to be watered less often, but the soil should not be allowed to completely dry out. It propagates by cuttings, and you need to fertilize the soil in the summer.
6. Round-leaved pellet (Pellaea rotundifolia)
Fern is the oldest plant that appeared on earth 300 million years ago. He does not need good illumination. Pellea is also a fern with only slightly different leaves - with small, round, leathery, shiny leaves - and with long thin stems. This plant prefers moist soil and atmosphere, grows well in areas where morning fog is frequent. During a drought, their leaves turn brown and fall off, and the plant itself begins to hurt and die. Fern prefers a slow-release fertilizer.
7. Dracaena Sandarian or Good Luck Bamboo (Dracaena Sanderiana)
This popular hardy houseplant has tough stems and is capable of surviving in a variety of lighting conditions, but prefers indirect light. With abundant light, its leaves turn brown, in this case it is better to transfer it to where there is less light. Bamboo loves to grow in water. However, the plant is very sensitive to the presence of chlorine, which is sometimes found in tap water. Therefore, before adding it to the vase, it is necessary to allow the water to settle so that the chemicals have time to evaporate. At the same time, there must be a sufficient water level in the container. Also, bamboo can be grown by planting it in soil, which should be moist and not dry out before watering again. It is recommended to fertilize the soil in which the bamboo is planted every month, using universal fertilizers.
