Anubias graceful lives in nature mainly in the reservoirs of Guinea and distant Sierra Leone and tries to lead a partially underwater lifestyle. It grows there in a moisture-saturated atmosphere, most often along the banks of streams, lakes and rivers, often leaving their shores in rainy seasons. And in our latitudes, this luxurious plant can be found mainly in aquariums - it revives their design, making it much more original and richer. However, anubias graceful will be appropriate only for aquariums of solid volumes, because its dimensions are very impressive
Getting to know the plant
Anubias graceful is endowed with powerful creeping rhizomes up to one and a half centimeters thick. The length of its juicy leaf petioles can often be up to sixty centimeters, and the petioles themselves are attached under the leaf blades at a distance of about one and a half centimeters. The whole-edged leathery green leaves of this aquatic inhabitant are triangular in shape, rounded at their bases and slightly pointed to the tips. Their length easily reaches forty centimeters, and their width is twenty.
The flower stalks of the beautiful graceful Anubias are about fifteen centimeters long, and its funny cover leaves reaching three centimeters in length are able to unfold and open quite wide. Cobs up to three centimeters long contain up to eight stamens fused together. They are densely covered with pretty pretty flowers. This wonderful plant usually blooms from February to May.
How to grow
Due to its imposing size, this aquatic beauty is only suitable for large aquariums. It will grow best in fairly spacious paludariums - and under the water surface of aquariums, it can only actively develop for an extremely limited period.
A green pet moved from the ground to aquariums will need a fairly long acclimatization - sometimes it takes up to several months. And it is recommended to place this beautiful aquatic man in the background.
As a soil for it, it is preferable to select a mixture consisting of earth and sand. It is also allowed to add humus of beech foliage or clay to these mixtures. Sometimes graceful Anubias grows quite well in hydroponics. And you need to try to plant it in the ground so that the creeping and thick rhizomes of this inhabitant of the waters remain on the surface and in no case are inadvertently buried. In this case, only the roots extending from these rhizomes are added dropwise. If you ignore this rule, the rhizomes will quickly begin to rot.
This handsome man is very unpretentious to the aquatic environment, the acidity and hardness of the water can vary greatly. Nevertheless, it is still better to try to use soft water or water of medium hardness - in such conditions, unpretentious graceful Anubias develops much faster. The most suitable parameters for the full development of this handsome man are considered: temperature - from 22 to 30 degrees, they try to select pH within 6, 6 - 7, 0, and hardness - from 5 to 15 degrees.
It is important to know that this amazing plant always prefers filtered clean water, therefore, when growing it, you will need to change it weekly, as well as powerful filtration. Well, if you grow graceful Anubias in old and dirty water, then numerous through holes can form on its leaves.
As for lighting, it should be as diffuse as possible. To organize this, it is better to use incandescent lamps equipped with matte cones or fluorescent lamps of the LB category. The graceful Anubias should be protected from the direct rays of the sun, and in general, the duration of the daylight hours of this handsome man should be within twelve hours.
With artificial breeding, the most optimal breeding option for the bizarre graceful Anubias is the division of rhizomes. To this end, they are broken into several tiny pieces, each of which has from three to five leaves. And their leafless areas until the formation of roots and the appearance of leaves are simply left to float in the water.
