Recently, people are increasingly turning to traditional medicine for the treatment of various diseases. As you know, many diseases arise from the nerves, since the work of various organs in our body is associated with the central nervous system. Therefore, first of all, we will "curb" our nerves and put them in order. To do this, you need to figure out what traditional medicine should be used to help our nervous system

Surely the first thing many thought about was valerian. Valerian did not quite deservedly take her first place in traditional medicine, since besides her, there are many different herbs that can help "calm our nerves." For example, in nature there is a motherwort herb, the existence of which many have long forgotten. But how many diseases this herb can cure!

Description and types of medicinal motherwort

Motherwort from the family Labiata has a tetrahedral straight stem (some species have a branched stem). The leaves of the motherwort are petiolate, the largest are the lower ones, and the closer to the top, the smaller the leaves. In the axils of the upper leaves, small pink flowers are collected in dense whorls. The inflorescence is spicate.

There are several types of motherwort, but only two of them are curative: the five-lobed (hairy motherwort) and the cordial motherwort. Motherwort grows on the slopes of ravines, along roadsides, on wastelands, you can say everywhere where there is sandy loam and loamy soil. Such a picky plant deserves respect from traditional medicine.

Medicinal properties and indications for the use of motherwort

The medicinal properties of motherwort are recognized not only by folk, but also by official medicine. Motherwort extract is used in the treatment of many diseases such as neurosis, hysteria, gastritis, colitis, myocarditis, mild epilepsy, heart disease, uterine fibroids, and also helps to reduce blood pressure and blood glucose levels. In addition, motherwort well removes fluid from the body, that is, it is a diuretic, which has a positive effect on the body. And, as you know, it has a beneficial effect on the central nervous system, relieving irritation, nervousness and improving mood. Most often, infusions, tinctures and extracts of motherwort are used as a sedative, which in its "sedative properties" is 2 times greater than valerian. This plant contains tannins, flavonoids, glycosides, alkanoids, vitamins A, C, a large amount of mineral salts, and essential oils. Essential oils found in motherwort are more often used in cosmetology.

Cooking motherwort infusion

Cooking motherwort infusion will not take much time, but it will bring more benefits than we think. To prepare 500 ml of infusion, 2 tablespoons are needed. pour boiling water (200 ml) of motherwort flowers and put on a steam bath for about 15-20 minutes, then bring the volume of the infusion to 500 ml and leave to cool for 45 minutes and you can take the infusion. By the way, the infusion can be prepared in another way: we take 2 tbsp. raw materials, fall asleep in a thermos, fill with boiling water and leave to brew overnight.

Contraindications to the use of motherwort

Motherwort is very well tolerated, but it also has some contraindications for use. It can cause an allergic reaction, which is very rare. Motherwort is contraindicated for stomach ulcers, erosive gastritis and pregnant women. It is also not recommended to take motherwort during work, which requires concentration, as it causes drowsiness.
