Everyone likes juicy lemons - someone adds lemon slices to tea, and someone makes wonderful pastries with them. Traditional medicine does not lag behind culinary experts - lemons are actively used to heal from a wide variety of ailments. These sour fruits are especially good for colds. To preserve lemons in an apartment, it is important to follow a number of simple rules

How to store?

Lemons in an apartment can be stored in several ways. Most often they are placed in a common refrigerator chamber, sprinkled with sugar or sand, or even laid out in jars of water. Another equally common storage option is storage in wax paper or wax.

Lemons in the fridge

Before sending citrus fruits to the refrigerator, it is advisable to wrap each fruit in paper - this is necessary so that the paper absorbs all excess moisture. However, you can do it differently: grease the lemon peel with vegetable oil and put all the fruits in a plastic bag.

For lemons to last longer, it is important to make sure that the temperature in the refrigerator does not exceed six degrees - then the lemons will stay fresh for two months, or even more.

Some hostesses manage to store lemons in jars filled with water, however, in this case, the water in the jars should be changed daily.

Sliced lemon

It will not be possible to preserve the cut lemon for too long, as it will gradually dry out. But it is quite possible to slow down the process of its drying. To do this, the cut juicy fruit is laid with a cut on a clean plate, and covered with a glass on top.

Sugar lemons

Preserving sliced lemons with sugar is perhaps one of the surest ways to keep these juicy fruits for as long as possible. You can simply peel the lemons or cut them into thin slices.

Cut the fruit with an extremely sharp sharpened knife, and the thickness of the slices should be minimal (not exceeding 5 mm). Once all the citrus fruits have been sliced, the slices begin to be stacked in jars in layers, alternating each fruit layer with a layer of sugar. The very first layer on the bottom of the jar should be the sugar layer. As for the proportion, it should be 1: 1, that is, for each kilogram of lemons, a similar amount of sugar is taken.

It is recommended to leave the lemon slices in jars to stand at room temperature for seven days - the sugar should completely dissolve during this time. After that, the fruits are moved to the refrigerator - there they are easily stored for about six months. And in the cold season, it is quite permissible to place jars of lemons on the balcony, however, the air temperature outside in this case should not drop below zero degrees.

Storage in wax

This storage method, of course, will cost a lot, but it is incredibly reliable. Wax melted in a water bath is applied with a brush to each fruit in a thin layer. When the wax hardens, the lemons are transferred to containers or boxes.

And if it was possible to find wax paper, then each fruit is wrapped in it separately, after which the lemons are placed in containers intended for storage. By the way, all containers with this storage method should be well ventilated.

Keeping lemons in the sand

The sand intended for storing lemons must be well dried and absolutely clean. You can dry the sand both in the sun and in the oven or in the stove. In addition, it is necessary to prepare in advance and containers or boxes. First, sand is poured onto their bottoms (the layer of which should be about three to four centimeters), and lemons wrapped in parchment paper are laid out on top. Then the layer of fruit is again covered with the same layer of sand. These steps are repeated until the containers are filled to the very top.
