Who doesn't know lemon? Fragrant pink and white flowers delight the eye several times a year. The plant is evergreen, the fruits are bright yellow on small branches. If the fruits are not removed, they will hang on the tree for more than a year. Growing lemon at home is not as difficult as it sounds

Homemade lemon from the citrus genus, rue family, is quite popular with flower growers. The tree is very decorative, blooms wonderfully and gives edible tasty fruits. The name of the plant comes from the Malay word "lemo", which means "good for mothers." Lemon leaves contain a very healthy essential oil. As a rule, the plant begins to bloom in early March and, with short interruptions, blooms until August. Fruits ripen almost all year round, and there can be both fruits and flowers on the tree at the same time. In the middle lane, lemon is grown only at home indoor conditions.

How to take care of him?

Lemon is extremely picky about light and heat. The plant prefers diffused sunlight and does not like drafts very much. A great place for a lemon is by the window on a high stand. In winter, the room temperature should be slightly reduced. By extending the daylight hours, using artificial lighting in autumn and winter, you will create comfortable conditions for the plant to grow. In summer, the lemon will be happy to “breathe” the fresh air on the balcony or open veranda, protected from the bright rays of the sun.

Air humidity is no less important for the lemon tree. The plant is sprayed daily with a spray bottle in the summer and twice a week in the winter. The leaves are wiped with a damp cloth on both sides.

If during the heating season in the room where the lemon tub is located, the air temperature is above 20 degrees, then you should hang the central heating battery with a thick cloth. Blooming lemons are pollinated with a soft brush or cotton ball - gently transferring pollen from the stamens to the pistils. Provide good drainage to the plant when planting. Mix in equal parts humus, sand, leafy and soddy soil. Water liberally.

Feed your lemon once every 10 days in summer and no more than once a month in winter. It is better to use special ready-made fertilizers for citrus fruits that have an optimal composition. In the fifth year of life, the lemon must be transferred into a larger tub and the procedure must be repeated every two to three years. You cannot fill up the root collar! After transshipment, you need to water the tree with a weak solution of potassium permanganate and put, which is very important, in its original place.

Lemon propagation

Lemons are propagated by layering, cuttings and grafting. Cuttings with five buds are cut in July with a very sharp knife, the upper cut is one centimeter higher than the last bud, planted in wet sand and covered with glass. The room temperature is maintained at 23-25 degrees. If you decide to plant seeds, then flowering will have to wait for many years, but you will get a plant adapted specifically to your conditions. Lemon seeds are planted to a depth of 2-3 centimeters.

Using the vaccine, you will receive the fruits in the fourth year. On the trunk, five centimeters from the ground, wipe the stock with a clean napkin to prevent infection. With a sharp knife, make a T-shaped incision 2 cm long, with a cross bar up to one centimeter. At the cutting, carefully cut off the lower bud, lightly grabbing the wood and carefully insert it into the prepared incision. Wrap the area with a clean washcloth or bandage, and cover the top with plastic wrap. After three weeks, the harness can be loosened, and after another week, removed. It is necessary to observe that excess shoots do not grow below the grafting site. And in a year your lemon will bloom!

Growing lemon at home is very beneficial for the health of the household. Leaves and flowers emit a huge amount of phytoncides and essential oils, which purify the air, kill a considerable number of pathogenic microbes, increase immunity in children and have a beneficial effect on the cardiovascular system of the older generation.

Grow a lemon tree and be healthy!
