Bacopa Karolinska is an incredibly attractive long-stemmed plant, oval and very juicy bright green leaves sitting in pairs on stems of which reach a length of up to two and a half centimeters.
In general, the leaves have a greenish-yellowish tint, however, if the bacope is provided with enhanced lighting, then its upper shoots can acquire a delicate pinkish or copper-brownish color.
The flowers of Bacopa Karolinska are very small and incredibly delicate. They are endowed with five petals and are painted in pale purple or bluish shades.
How to grow
It is recommended to grow this beauty in well-lit tropical aquariums. Moderately warm aquariums are also fine. This aquatic inhabitant grows normally at temperatures from 20 to 26 degrees. But in cooler water, its rapid growth not only slows down, but also its oldest leaves slowly rot.
For breeding Bacopa Karolinska, it is advisable to select not very deep aquariums (a depth of 25-30 cm is quite enough) or other small depths of the container. It also grows quite well in humid greenhouses or in paludariums, where it is slightly flooded.
As for water, the best in this case will be soft water with a slightly acidic or neutral reaction. By the way, the water can be not only fresh, but also old enough - various organic substances accumulating in aquariums will in no way affect the growth of Caroline bacopa and will not slow it down. Moreover, its leaves are characterized by high resistance to fouling, as well as to the settling of all kinds of mineral and various organic particles. If the hardness of the water exceeds six to eight degrees, then this aquatic inhabitant will become smaller, and even deformation of the leaves may occur.
It is important to choose an aquarium soil that is moderately silted, since the root system of Bacopa Karolinska is rather poorly developed, and a solid part of the food is taken by it directly from the water. Small pebbles or sand placed in a layer of two to four centimeters can act as a substrate. The luxurious Bacopa does not need additional mineral supplements - it is more than enough of all kinds of nutrients supplied with fish food and fresh water.
It is worth saying unequivocally about lighting - the brighter it is, the better. By the way, in overly deep aquariums, this wonderful plant can often experience discomfort precisely from the lack of light. If suddenly the depth of the aquarium exceeds thirty centimeters, it is better to install this green pet on the side shelves raised closer to the lighting devices in small containers. Alternatively, you can equip side lighting. Natural light will be incredibly useful for a wonderful aquatic inhabitant, and slightly diffused sunlight is generally ideal. Well, for the organization of artificial lighting, the most suitable option will be LU fluorescent lamps. However, the installation of ordinary incandescent lamps is also quite acceptable. But their power for each container is selected separately. However, it is important to consider that the length of daylight hours for this water beauty should be at least twelve hours.
It is quite simple to propagate the wonderful Caroline Bacopa - this is done by cutting the stems. The separated apical shoots that have reached ten to fifteen centimeters in length are allowed, without waiting for the formation of roots, to be planted directly into the ground. With this planting, the lower whorls of the leaves are well deepened. And a little later, roots will appear at the bases of the leaves.
If you provide bacope Karolinska with proper lighting, high-quality and nutritious soil with impressive doses of organic matter, as well as a temperature within 24 - 30 degrees, this wonderful plant will grow very quickly and will certainly delight you with beautiful blue or purple flowers.
