Pomegranate in indoor culture refers to a very unpretentious plant. In many ways, the success of growing this unusual tree in the home interior lies in a correctly composed soil mixture. Let's take a closer look at this southern handsome man and the care he needs
Caring for a pomegranate at room conditions
The southern origin of the pomegranate was reflected in his character by his love for the sunny corners of the apartment. Therefore, a pot with a plant will develop much better in those rooms whose windows face south. It takes a lot of both light and fresh air to decorate the branches of the tree with the buds, and then the flowers.
In the summer months, the soil in the pot is watered abundantly, and in extreme heat, the leaves are additionally sprayed with water. In the warm season, pomegranates can be taken out on open balconies, left in the garden, front garden. It feels good under the open sky and sunlight.
In winter, soil moistening is carried out more moderately. However, an allowance must be made for the conditions of detention and the condition of the plant. If, starting in autumn, the pomegranate is left for a month at rather low temperatures - about + 7-8 degrees C - and then moved to warm conditions, where the thermometer fluctuates within + 18-20 degrees C, with increased watering he will lay buds much earlier and will delight households with flowering already in December-January.
When such agricultural practices are not used, the optimal temperature for winter maintenance will be at the level of + 16-17 degrees C. In high-rise apartments during this period it may be too hot and dry due to the included heating radiators. And it is better to move the pomegranate to the insulated balconies and loggias. So that the soil in the pot does not overcool, its surface is mulched with sawdust. And to maintain the necessary moisture in the earthen coma, wood material is regularly sprayed with water from a spray bottle.
In the spring and summer, pomegranate is fed. Fertilizers are applied every two weeks, alternating mineral compositions with organic ones. Pomegranate responds well to fermented mullein solution.
Pomegranate transplant rules
As the pomegranates grow, it is necessary to move them into pots, and then larger barrels:
• young plants require an annual transplant;
• starting from the age of 5-6, the trees are transplanted into fresh soil every two years;
• old pomegranates should be transplanted every 4-5 years.
The pomegranate will love the nutritious, loose sandy soil. For young plants, the substrate is prepared from deciduous and sod land, humus and sand. A dry mullein is used as drainage.
From the age of 5, the composition of the soil is replaced with a qualitatively different one. For its preparation, a mixture of clay-sod, compost and deciduous soil with sand and bone meal is used.
Despite the fact that old plants are rarely transplanted, the topsoil in the barrel still needs to be renewed. To do this, you can use a nutrient mixture of humus and chicken droppings.
Reproduction of pomegranate
There are many ways to breed pomegranate. For this, both seeds and cuttings, grafts, layering, root shoots are suitable. The fastest and easiest way to get a sapling is to root the stalk. The best time for this is spring. Also, cuttings are taken after the end of the flowering period.
Rooting takes place in wet sand. It is good if the pot with the handle is heated from below. To do this, they are installed near the batteries. But do not forget to spray the planting material. The root system will be formed in 2-3 weeks. For planting, a soil mixture is prepared from sod, deciduous, humus soil and sand. Pots with a diameter of 7 cm or more are suitable - depending on how developed the bark system of the seedling is.
