Sinningia belongs to the group of indoor plants that bloom with the arrival of the first stable May heat and continue to bloom throughout the summer until autumn. This is a perennial plant, but in order for it to bloom again next spring, you need to know how to care for it during the dormant period
Conditions of detention of the tropicana
Sinningia is native to Brazil. To many, this flower is also known as gloxinia. The plant received these names at different times in honor of two different botanists - V. Sining and P. B. Gloxin. But besides, synningia is called beautiful, and it's hard to argue with that. This is a short plant with large leaves of a rich dark green color, against which large bright tubular flowers bloom. The color of the petals is uniform - purple, red, blue, pink, yellow. Hybrid varieties are distinguished by a terry, like lace, white border. In addition, sinningia petals can surprise with an unusual pattern - a predatory spotted color or contrasting rich veins.
Originating from the tropics, sinningia is very demanding on heat and humidity. When the room gets cool, this is reflected in the cessation of flower growth. When the thermometer in the room during the growing season of the plant shows lower than + 18 ° C, its leaves lose their turgor and fall on the pot, the peduncle remains underdeveloped, and the buds are deformed.
At the same time, excess heat is also harmful to the houseplant. It must be borne in mind that in the heat, in bright light, watering with cold water leads to burns on the leaves. Therefore, although a well-lit place is required during the flowering of sinningia, it must be protected from direct sunlight. In this case, the room must be regularly ventilated, but do not allow the pot to stand in a draft.
Laying tubers for storage
After the flowering period is over, the soil under the synningia ceases to be moistened. There are many ways to store tubers until next spring. In the first case, the pots with tubers are stored in a dry room, laid on their side, until the arrival of March. If the prospect of such a warehouse does not please you, the planting material can be pulled out of the pots of soil and transferred to storage in a box with barely damp sand. In such conditions, at a temperature of + 10 … + 12 ° C, planting material is stored for about 4 months.
Preparation of planting material for planting
To get a flowering plant again by May, in December-January they start planting tubers in seedling boxes. The nutrient substrate is prepared from the following components:
• coniferous land;
• fibrous peat;
• sand.
All components are taken in equal parts. Instead of coniferous soil, you can also use semi-rotted deciduous soil. In addition, per 1 kg of substrate, the following microelements are added to the nutrient substrate:
• superphosphate - 2 g;
• ammonium nitrate - 1.5 g;
• potassium sulfate - 1 g.
If the tubers of plants are too large, they are cut, and the cuts are treated with crushed charcoal or ash. After such a procedure, the planting material should be given 5-7 days for the edges to dry out. When it is planned to get seeds for reproduction, then the division of the tubers is not produced for at least 3 years.
Planting material is placed in boxes in a checkerboard pattern at a distance of 8 x 8 cm. A month later, it will be possible to observe the growing shoots. This is a signal that it is time to move the tubers into individual pots. To stimulate the growth of synningia, liquid dressings are performed. These works are carried out in the morning, so that by the evening the soil dries out and the leaves do not rot from excessive moisture. During watering, it is also necessary to ensure that drops of water do not fall on the leaves.
