Shallots look very much like onions. However, unlike its relative, the bulb has a more elongated or irregularly rounded shape. Shallots are popularly called the shrike. It received such an unusual name for its ability to form a multi-nested turnip. In the first year, during seed reproduction, a small nest is formed, in which up to 5 pieces of small bulbs grow. But next year, planting onions will impress with their size and the number of copies in one nest - from 10 to 20 bulbs.

Shallots have other benefits as well. The bulbs are characterized by high frost resistance and good keeping quality. This type of onion is also grown on a green feather. Its greenery, in comparison with others, is thinner, tubular, and grows very densely. The agrotechnology of shallots is no different from the methods of caring for onions. Planting material is placed on the beds in a 3-line tape method. Bulbs are planted in the ground in autumn and early spring.

Multi-tiered bow - alien guest

The multi-tiered bow has a very unusual appearance. To someone who for the first time in his life sees such a plant in the beds, it may seem like a guest from another planet. The plant looks as if the tops and roots have changed places, but do not rush to be fooled - there are also underground bulbs in the soil. The leaves of a multi-tiered onion are hollow and also tubular. The peculiarity of this variety is that at the top of the arrow, instead of flowers with seeds, air bulbs appear, and they can be arranged in several tiers. These air bulbs have better keeping quality than underground ones.

Tiered onions are cultivated as both an annual and a perennial crop. Disembarkation continues from mid-summer to September. It is frost-hardy and is able to winter in the soil even in regions where the layer of snow cover does not please with its thickness. Young leaves begin to grow very early, and they can withstand frosts down to -5 ° C. Greens and basal bulbs are used for food, which harmoniously fit into recipes for pickles and pickled dishes.

Slime onion - how to give your garden an attractive decorative look

Slime onions will become a real decoration of your site. Its fleshy wide flat leaves have an attractive decorative appearance and can be easily confused with any garden plant. But unlike the latter, these leaves are edible and have a pleasant delicate taste. During flowering, a very beautiful dense spherical umbrella opens on a high arrow. The flower arrow in its length exceeds the height of the leaves by 2-3 times and sometimes it can reach the height of a person.

Greens appear from the ground shortly after the snow melts, and you can eat them after three weeks. But the harvest does not end there, since the greens grow back, and it is possible to cut them several times per season. The plant is very hygrophilous. With a lack of moisture in the soil, it develops poorly, the leaves become smaller. Another reason for small and coarse leaves is the cultivation of slime onions in one place for more than 4 years. Perennial bushes need to be divided and transplanted. Among the advantages of the plant are cold resistance and undemandingness to light.
