How to protect cucumbers?

To get an enviable harvest of cucumbers, it is not enough to water and fertilize the beds. The appearance of plants in open ground is very pleasing to pests, who are just waiting for the gardener to weaken his vigilance and thereby provide them with free field for activity. It is not only insects that can take the crop out from under the nose. Other parasites, causative agents of various diseases, can also cause significant harm to the fruits of your labors. How to recognize enemies and how to deal with them?

Great harm to a thin cobweb

The established warm weather could cheer up summer residents. But along with it, the spider mite is also activated. They make themselves a registration on the underside of the plant leaf and begin to feed on their juices. Such damage first looks like light dots, and as the parasite lives, the leaf plate completely loses its rich green tint, becoming covered with colorless spots. A thin cobweb on the surface of the leaves can confirm suspicions about the work of the tick.

You can fight a tick using different methods. A solution of colloidal sulfur will help to cope with it - for this, 50 g of a substance is taken for 10 liters of water. Fans of organic farming can be advised to spray the affected pets with infusion of garlic peels. An onion will also work for these purposes. You will need 200 g of raw materials per 10 liters of water.

The melon aphid is afraid of ash and soap

This pest will gladly feast on both cucumbers and peppers, eggplants, zucchini, and can settle on dill. Unlike spider mites, aphids are better known for loving humid and moderately warm weather. The alarm needs to be beaten when the first generation of wingless individuals - yellow and dark green oval-shaped aphids - is noticeable on the landings. It is worth missing this moment, and they will leave behind offspring of larvae. This attack destroys shoots and leaves, flowers and ovaries. Plants after such abuse shrivel up, twist the leaves.

Ordinary laundry soap and wood ash will help to cope with the problem. To do this, take 10 liters of water:

• 50 g of soap;

• 200 g of ash.

If there is a shortage of ash for such needs, you can use only soapy water. But then concentration needs to be increased. The same volume of water will require 200 g of soap.

To prevent the leaves from drying out from powdery mildew

Insidious powdery mildew affects cucumbers both in the greenhouse and in the open field. Moreover, in the first case, favorable conditions for the development of the disease are formed at high humidity and temperatures below +20? C, while in an open-air garden the disease can make itself felt in the heat, even with a prolonged absence of precipitation. Unattractive spots begin to spread on the upper side of the leaf plate, gradually expanding and moving to other parts of the plant. If you do not take measures to combat the infection, the leaf apparatus of the cucumbers will dry out prematurely.

To cure pets of this scourge, a suspension of colloidal sulfur is used. The beds are re-processed after a week. Watering with mullein infusion also helps prevent the spread of powdery mildew on cucumber plantings. For this you will need:

• mullein - 1 part;

• water - 3 parts.

The product is allowed to brew for 3 days, and before use, it is again diluted with water in a ratio of 1: 3. The "treatment" is started in cloudy weather or in the evening hours.

Those who are faced with this problem should remember to dig deep into the ground in the fall and get rid of plant debris, on which the infection can wait in the wings until next season. Owners of greenhouses and greenhouses should additionally take care of disinfecting the structure and racks, and treating the soil with bleach.
