But it is not on sale; at best, the owners of the flower can give it to you or give a part of the plant for reproduction. To increase the number of "green favorites" or replace old and diseased plants with young ones, it is necessary to engage in flower propagation. Growing new plants is troublesome, but exciting. For self-cultivation of a plant in apartment conditions, layering, offspring, mustaches, cuttings, pieces of stem, leaves are used.

Reproduction by layering

Wiring can propagate ampelous and climbing plants. Such plants include tradescantia with a flexible long stem or ivy. The disadvantage of the proposed method: long-term rooting of layers. In spring or early summer, choose the strongest shoot and press it into the soil in another vessel. Water the layer according to the degree of drying of the soil mixture. In order for the cuttings to take root better, it is recommended to make a small incision in the lower part of the stem. Several shoots of the same plant can be rooted at the same time. At the time when young roots appear at the cuttings and fresh shoots, the young plant should be completely separated from the mother.

Reproduction by offspring

Root offspring are formed in bromeliads, bulbous, aloe, clivia, agave, cacti. Offspring are daughter plants with their own roots that grow on the adventitious roots of the main plant. In clivia, aloe, agave, for example, an adult bush is not taken out of the container, but the young plant is carefully separated with a sharp object and transplanted into a new container.

Cut or break off daughter plants closer to the main stem, keeping most of your own roots. The offspring should come off easily enough, do not make great efforts, otherwise damage the plant. If the offspring was unsuccessfully cut off, then sprinkle crushed coal on the wound site and only then plant the offspring. Place each of the offspring in a separate pot and treat it like a normal cutting. Separate the babies of bulbous plants from the mother plant and plant them. They will bloom 1 to 2 years after transplanting.

Mustache reproduction

Chlorophytum, saxifrage, tolmia, episcia form vegetative lateral shoots at the ends of flowering shoots or along the edges of adult leaves (Kalanchoe), from which young plants are formed. They multiply very easily and quickly. If the daughter plants do not have their own roots, then you can dig them into the ground, and after rooting, separate them from the mother flower. When the daughter plant already has its own roots, separate it from the mother and plant it as a rooted cutting. Water liberally, but do not overflow.

Propagation by cuttings

In this way, most indoor plants can be propagated: non-tuberous begonia, coleus, cacti, geraniums, ficus, dracaena, hibiscus and many others. The optimal time for breeding in this way is summer, when bright lighting and warm temperatures are present. Reproduction is carried out by apical, lateral and stem cuttings. The apical method of propagation by cuttings is used to shorten overgrown plants, while removing the upper part of the main stem.

If lateral cuttings are cut off, then the propagation process is called lateral cuttings. Cut a stalk from a healthy plant just below the leaf node, root it in water or in an earthen mixture with a high sand content.

Stem cuttings are obtained from a potted flower stem cut into pieces.
