The versatility of dwarf roses attracts many. Mini flowers are decorative, have a wide variety of varieties, are grown on the street, in the apartment and on the balcony. Read on for an overview of the best varieties, with details on outdoor growing, haircuts, and grooming tips

Why dwarf roses are in fashion

Connoisseurs of colorful compositions prefer to plant miniature roses. Today they are at their peak of popularity, as they have continuous flowering, are compact, suitable for small areas, and are able to decorate not only a plot, but also an apartment.

From the middle of the 20th century, the active work of breeders began. As a result, many hybrids have been created, with a variety of buds, leaf colors, all of them are resistant to diseases. They are not inferior in beauty to tall beauties and have a lot of advantages.

Many plants have thornless stems, buds are collected in apical inflorescences. Flowers can be double, cup-shaped, semi-double. Flowering takes place without pauses, almost all summer. Unusual and colorful mini-roses are called "chameleon effect", as many varieties change the color of the buds. On one bush you can see coral, pink, lemon, yellow shades at the same time. Cut 7-9 days.

Miniature roses are actively grown outdoors in any way: in soil, containers, pots. Placed along paths, in rocky gardens, on the terrace, in recreation areas, in flower beds, in compositions with conifers, ornamental shrubs and perennials. This group of plants is ideal for multi-level placement.

Usually, these mini-beauties do not give growth, do not stretch up, delight with abundant foliage, branching and splendor. They are often called patio roses or dwarf bush roses. Potted roses are called varieties intended only for protected ground. Unfortunately, many varieties lack aroma.

The indisputable advantage of miniature roses is easy propagation by cuttings, which takes place in different ways: on the street May-August, in the room March-September. The height of all species is maintained within 15-30 cm, grafted on rose hips 30-50. The foliage is always shiny, it can have shades with a brown, bronze sheen, there are types with "marble" leaves (light green with a dark tracery of veins).

Growing dwarf roses on the street

There are no special problems when growing miniature roses. On the street, they need to find a sunny, windless place. They like light loams, neutral, slightly acidic soil. Care consists of loosening, watering and fertilizing.

Over the summer, you will need to fertilize roses 3-4 times. The first feeding is carried out in the spring with ammonium nitrate immediately after removing the shelter. The second is with urea at the beginning of the regrowth of the stems. The third is the mineral complex when the first buds appear. Fourth - superphosphate + potassium at the end of the season (August).

Watering is carried out as needed 1-2 times a week in the morning or in the evening. The time is calculated so that the water droplets on the leaves have time to dry out before nightfall or before the activity of the sun, which can "burn" the foliage. In the open field, roses are prone to typical diseases: powdery mildew, black spot (marsonina), putrefactive infections. And they are also attacked by aphids and rose sawers.

For wintering, dwarf roses need additional insulation. A temperature of -7 is considered critical. For shelter, it is not recommended to use sawdust, sand, peat. Only woven material, spruce branches, dry foliage, before that the bushes are spud. You can avoid damping by removing the shelter in time. During thaws, ventilation is done (opening from one side). In the southern regions, hilling can be dispensed with, the mound is made at least 15-20 cm.

Pruning dwarf roses

In the spring, corrective and rejuvenating pruning takes place immediately after the cover is removed. The damaged and the dead are removed completely. If necessary, thinning is done - these are weak and old stems. Ideally, 4-5 strongest shoots remain on the bush, which are shortened. Their tenderloin is done by a third, but leaving at least 3-4 buds.

To maintain decorativeness and prolong budding, systematic pruning of old inflorescences is required. Without this procedure, flowering can become scarce or stop altogether. If your goal of cutting is a bouquet, then no more than 3 stems can be taken from one bush. 2-3 leaves must be left on the shoot.
