The genus Deytsia (Deutzia) unites about fifty deciduous shrubs, the decorative effect of which is given by numerous shoots and straight flat branches with exfoliating thin straps of bark.

The leaves, rough to the touch, hold on to the stems with short petioles, located opposite. The edge of the leaf is serrated.

The apical inflorescences, similar to panicles, or crimson brushes, are collected from white, pink or purple flowers, which can be simple or double.

Varieties

Deytsiya Chuna (Deutzia chunii) is a shrub with narrow leaves and two-colored flowers, pink on the outside and white on the inside, which bloom in July, which is considered a late bloom.

Deytion crenate (Deutzia crenata) - An excellent contender for alpine slides, characterized by the compactness of the bushes. The height of the bush is 60 cm. Delicate flowers with thin and long petals and a corolla, covered with dense fluff, are collected in inflorescence brushes. Variety "Nikko" is very decorative, star-shaped white delicate flowers of which form panicle inflorescences in summer.

Action is thin (Deutzia gracilis) is a hybrid-forming species, distinguished by the grace of erect dense branches and erect inflorescences, panicles, collected from stellate white fragrant flowers that bloom in June.

Rough action (Deutzia scabra) - this species is chosen when tall shrubs are needed, because Deutzia scabra reaches a height of 2 m. Pure white double flowers abundantly cover the bush.

Long-leaved action (Deutzia longifolia) - grows slightly lower than rough, reaching 1.5 m in height. Panicle inflorescences, collected from stellate white or pinkish-purple flowers, appear in early summer.

Growing

Action feels equally well in the sun or in the partial shade of other plants or buildings.

She is not embarrassed by any soil that has good drainage, since stagnant water is contraindicated for the plant.

Deytsia steadfastly endures the summer heat and preserves its roots in frosts, but does not like cold drafts, and therefore it should be provided with a place where cold air has no access.

To ensure the active growth of the shrub, old branches and faded peduncles are removed. For such operations, it is better to choose cloudy weather.

In cold areas, Deytsia is best planted in October, in areas with a mild climate, it is possible in spring. For the winter, it is recommended to mulch the soil around the shrub.

In the spring, the soil is refreshed by adding a mixture of fresh soil, sand and rotted manure, and watered abundantly. Regular watering is needed for young bushes, as well as all bushes during prolonged summer drought.

Reproduction

For reproduction, only one method is used - cuttings. The procedure is carried out in autumn or spring, defining containers with cuttings in a cool room.

When the roots appear, the plants are provided with personalized pots. In the open ground to a permanent place, the seedlings are relocated in the fall or next spring.

Diseases and pests

Very rarely, a shrub can be infected with a fungus that causes yellowish brown spots on the leaves. Typically no fungicide treatment is required.

But the appearance of aphids requires protective measures.

The most insidious enemy is the miner moth. The parts of the plant that she managed to get to should be mercilessly removed.
