Deytsiya (lat. Deutzia) refers to ornamental crops; it is a fairly large genus of flowering deciduous shrubs, belonging to the Hortensia family. The homeland of action is Asia.
Popular types and their description
* Deutzia star-shaped, or rough (lat. Deutzia scabra) - characterized by flowering deciduous shrubs, reaching a height of up to 250 cm, with a vertical crown. Bark branching off in layers, gray-brown, sometimes with a red tint. The foliage can be ovate or lanceolate, harsh to the touch, pubescent, pale green in color, in autumn it becomes yellowish, golden and bronze. The flowers, depending on the variety, can be snow-white, lilac or bright pink, collected in brushes or panicles, without a clear aroma. Flowering is bright and abundant, takes place in the third decade of July - early August.

Leaves are elliptical, pubescent over the entire surface, serrate along the edge, sharp at the tips. There are many flowers, white, collected in shields.
* Deutzia elegantissima (lat. Deutzia elegantissima) - characterized by shrubs, the height of which does not exceed 1 m. The branches bear large, dark green foliage, sharp at the ends. The flowers are snow-white on the inside, pinkish on the outside, collected in multi-flowered brushes.
* Deutzia graceful (lat. Deutzia gracilis) - represented by graceful shrubs up to 150 cm high, equipped with thin branches bearing green lanceolate foliage, pointed at the ends. Flowers can be snow-white, collected in brushes or panicles. Flowering begins in the first or second decade of June.
Growing features
Deytsia is a light-loving culture, it prefers areas well-lit by the sun. It blooms poorly in shading. It does not make any special demands on the soil, although it grows better on light, well-drained, nutritious and moist soils. Most varieties of action are not winter-hardy; in severe and snowless winters, young shoots freeze slightly. At temperatures below -30C, the action freezes out completely and dies (some species are not able to withstand frosts below -25C). The culture has a negative attitude to cold northerly winds, therefore it is recommended to plant it on gentle southwestern slopes.
Breeding and planting features
The action is propagated by seeds, layering, summer and winter cuttings, as well as root suckers. Seeds are sown without preliminary treatment in early spring, they are distributed over the surface of the earth, without deepening. From time to time, the crops are moistened, with the appearance of three leaves in the seedlings, they are planted in open ground
Russian gardeners most often grow action by propagation by cuttings or by planting seedlings purchased from a nursery. Cuttings are harvested in the second decade of June to the first decade of July. Then they are planted in an inclined position in a nutrient mixture of peat and humus for rooting.
Plants obtained by cuttings are planted in a permanent place after 2 years. For the winter, young plants are insulated with spruce branches. Pits for planting seedlings are prepared in three weeks, after which a third of it is filled with a nutrient mixture. On acidic soils, liming is required. The optimal distance between shrubs is 200-250 cm.
Care
Deytsia is a moisture-loving culture, it has a negative attitude towards dry periods. Needs systematic watering, usually 2-4 times in 30-40 days, 15-20 liters per plant. Monthly plants are fed with slurry and phosphorus fertilizers, thoroughly loosened and remove weeds. Young shrubs need mulch application.
Immediately after the flowering action, pruning (both sanitary and formative) is carried out. The first involves the removal of broken and dried branches and thinning. The shaping is aimed at giving the crown of action a beautiful shape, so three-year-old branches are cut off, leaving small hemp up to 10 cm long. For the winter, the plants are covered with spruce branches, and the lower leaves are bent to the ground and spud.
Application
Action plants are widely used in single and group plantings, as tapeworms and free-growing hedges. Low-growing varieties of action are used to create curbs and rock gardens, as well as in rocky gardens..
