It is winter outside the window and it seems that summer will not come soon. But in fact, before we have time to come to our senses, the streams will ring and the long-awaited warmth will come. And then it's time to plant flowers in flower beds. But in order to plant high-quality seedlings, it is not necessary to purchase it in specialized stores, it is quite possible to grow it yourself. By the way, for some flowers it is necessary to sow seeds for seedlings already in January

What kind of flowers do we plant?

In January, we plant all flowers on seedlings, both annual and perennial, with a long period between emergence and flowering, this period ranges from 130 to 180 days. Thanks to early planting of seeds for seedlings (mid-January - early February), late-flowering annuals will delight you with flowers in June, and perennials, which usually bloom in the second year after planting, will be able to bloom in the first year. Let's take a closer look at several varieties of such flowers and the features of their planting for seedlings.

Snapdragon

Let's start, perhaps, with one of the most common and beloved by many plants - the common antirrhinum (Antirrhinum), which is popularly called simply - snapdragon. It is an annual plant that actively blooms with a wide variety of flowers of various colors. Looks very nice both on a flower bed and in a bouquet. If you sow antirrinum in January, then in May you will already have a good, mature seedling.

We plant in moistened soil, simply scattering the seeds over the surface, without digging into the soil, then pull the film on top. You can plant in plastic containers with transparent lids, this will facilitate the task when watering or airing is needed. We put our future seedlings in a bright place, but not in direct sunlight, and wait for the shoots that will appear in 10-15 days. After the emergence of seedlings, remove the film or cover. At the snapdragon, not only shoots appear slowly, but the shoots that have appeared are in no hurry to grow, so we will carry out the pick no earlier than in a month. After picking, we leave the shoots for rooting, this is also not a quick process, which takes almost 2 weeks. After rooting, top dressing can be done. That's it, now, before planting in open ground, the seedlings only need to moisten the soil.

Garden carnation

Another favorite flower of many, pleasing with long flowering is the garden carnation. It belongs to perennial plants, most of the varieties are hybrid. With the first flowers, carnation pleases gardeners about six months after planting it with seeds. Therefore, if you want to admire the flowers of carnations in your flower bed all summer long, do not miss the timing of planting seeds for seedlings. Be sure to plant in January.

There are no difficulties in planting a plant, the only caveat is that it is advisable to stock up on a small amount of river sand in advance and ignite it. The seeds are planted in the soil (I always plant in purchased soil, since there are enough nutrients there before the plant is transplanted into the ground and there is no need to carry out additional fertilizing) in grooves 3-4 millimeters deep at a distance of 2-3 centimeters from each other. Fall asleep just harvested previously calcined sand. But if it is not there, then you can cover it with peat. Spray well with water from a spray bottle and cover with foil until shoots appear. We keep it in a shaded place, and as soon as the first shoots appear, we rearrange it to the light.

Carpathian bell

Another perennial (but its hybrids can be grown as an annual) plant that delights with the shape of the flower, the variety of colors and the duration of flowering is the Carpathian bell. Seedlings appear for him for a very long time, we can say that he is a record holder for long-term germination. After you sow the seeds for seedlings, seedlings will appear only after 20-25 days! We plant seeds to a depth of 2-3 mm, carefully sprinkle with soil, water with a spray bottle. And we are patiently waiting for the shoots. We plant it in the soil after warm weather is established without the possibility of frost.

So if you want to see one of these flowers in your flower bed, then already now stock up on everything you need to grow seedlings.

And in the next article, we will briefly consider the features of growing seedlings of some more flowers that need to be planted in January.
