In this article, I want to continue the conversation about which seedlings should be planted in January, so that at the beginning of summer they will delight us with their flowering. Let me remind you that if perennials, usually blooming in the second year after planting, are planted for seedlings in January, then they will bloom in the current year
Pelargonium zonal
Pelargonium is zonal, due to its unpretentiousness, a rather popular plant. It is used to decorate balconies, terraces, gazebos, flower beds. It is also used in pot gardening of plots, because the variety of varieties and colors is almost endless and everyone can choose to their taste.
But in order for pelargonium to please with flowering from June, and not from the end of summer, you need to take care of planting seeds for seedlings now. We sow seeds in well-loosened soil to a depth of about 2-3 mm, lightly sprinkle with soil, gently water with a spray bottle and put in a warm place. The temperature for germinating seeds is 20-25 degrees Celsius.
After the sprouts have appeared and the seedlings have reached the desired size for a dive, we carry out a dive and move it to a cooler, but well-lit room. And we keep the seedlings there until they are planted in the ground, periodically watering. You can feed it 1-2 times so that the pelargonium blooms magnificently.
Delphinium hybrid
Depending on the variety, this flower is both annual and perennial. It can be propagated in several ways: by dividing the bush, cuttings and seeds. We are now looking at seed propagation. Delphinium seeds must be kept in the cold, for this they are usually kept in the refrigerator from autumn to sowing in the ground. But since we are sowing for seedlings, we will keep them in the cold after planting, this is quite acceptable and in March we will already have ready-made sprouts. The only condition is that in this case it is better to plant in containers that can be closed with a lid. So, we prepare the soil (or buy ready-made), for this we mix in one-to-one proportions sand, humus and black soil. Then we plant the seeds to a depth of 3-5 millimeters. After planting, we close the lid well and take it out to a cold place, you can even bury the containers with seeds in the snow, until spring. In March, the seedlings will need to be picked, and then, after the appearance of 3-4 permanent leaves, we plant the delphinium at its permanent "place of residence".
Autumn Gelenium
This is a very beautiful perennial plant, characterized by abundant flowering and rapid growth of the bush. But it usually blooms the next year after planting. But to get flowering plants in the first year, you need to take care of the seedlings in January. In addition, helenium copes well with drought, loves sunny, well-ventilated places.
It is best to plant seeds for seedlings in light commercial land, which has enough nutrients. Pour the soil into small boxes (or any other containers), moisten the soil (but do not fill it!), Make grooves about 3-4 millimeters deep, sow seeds at a distance of 1.5-2 cm from each other. We fall asleep with a thin layer of soil and wait for the shoots, remembering to water the soil with a sprayer as needed. After the emergence of seedlings, we wait until the plant grows stronger and we plant them in separate containers. Then we take it out into a cool room, with a temperature of about 18 degrees Celsius, and keep it there until the beginning of May. In early May, we plant our seedlings in open ground. Gelenium takes root very easily and quickly and will begin to bloom in the very first summer. By the way, choose the place for the final landing carefully, since the helenium grows very quickly.
Such simple operations will lead to the fact that we will be able to enjoy chic flowering flower beds in our summer cottages with practically no financial costs in the summer.
