Today's summer residents are unlikely to grow maples on their site for the sake of maple syrup and sugar, for the manufacture of furniture, skis, boot nails or bowling pins. But in order for the bees to have a "plantation" for collecting nectar and pollen in early spring, maples are often planted around apiaries and dachas with a couple of hives. After all, maples are well-proven melliferous plants
Rod Maple
About two hundred species of woody deciduous (rarely evergreen) plants are united by the genus Maple (Acer), among which there are shrubs and trees. Maple is a resident of the Northern Hemisphere, and therefore is not afraid of frost, and he does not care about the heat.
The spreading green crown of whole or pinnate leaves, holding on to branches with the help of petioles, acquires a bright color in autumn. Diptera fruits are picked up by a stray wind and carried around the world in order to prolong the presence of the maple on the planet.
Maple itself and maple leaves are used by people in various symbolism, sung by poets, written by artists and described by writers. Gardens and parks are decorated with maple trees and shrubs.
Varieties
•
Field maple (Acer campestre) - the most commonly used type of maple in the landscaping of settlements. The spreading crown of a tree that grows to a height of no more than 15 meters is wide and dense. The soft contour of the blades of three to five small lobed leaves gives the maple a delicate and gallant look. This does not even interfere with the leathery surface of the leaves, which are painted dark green on top, and yellowish green below. Autumn evens out the color, making the leaf completely yellow or reddish.
•
Norway maple (Acer platanoides) - the resistance of this type of maple to environmental pollution has made it a long-liver, which is 150 years old on the shoulder. Its leaves, like the previous species, are three to five lobed, only they are large, dark green and with sharp ends and sharp teeth along the edge of the leaf. Maple grows quickly. Ornamental varieties have been developed that change the color of the leaves in an unexpected way: for example, in spring the leaves are crimson-red, in summer they acquire an intense green color, and autumn gives the leaves a bronze tint.
•
Maple false-plane (Acer pseudoplatanus) - a species that is not afraid of wind and frost. In young plants, the bark is smooth, beginning to exfoliate over the years in large plates, which can coagulate into a tube. Large leaves have five shallow lobes, pointed at the ends. The upper side of the leaf is dark green, the lower side is whitish or reddish.
•
Maple silver (Acer saccharinum) - named for the silvery-white underside of deeply cut 5-lobed leaves. The edge of the leaves is double-serrate. Differs in rapid growth and resistance to gas pollution in cities.
•
Sugar maple (Acer saccharum) - the juice running along the trunk and branches of the maple contains sugar, which is obtained by boiling it into a syrup. Maple leaves are yellowish, large, five-lobed.
Growing
Maples can grow in full sun and partial shade. The brightness of the coloring of decorative varieties is the thicker, the more sun gets to the leaves. They are not afraid of either low or high temperatures.
The plant prefers fertile soils, loose, with good drainage, since stagnant water causes root rot.
Maples do not need pruning. To maintain decorativeness, only dry and damaged branches are removed.
With prolonged drought, young seedlings need watering.
Reproduction
Botanical species are propagated by sowing seeds in October directly in open ground, or in cold greenhouses. Vegetatively, through grafting to seedlings, forms and varieties are propagated.
Enemies
Maple leaves like to feast on: gluttonous aphids, spider mites, grape itch (a kind of mites). It is affected by wood and fungi.

New Is Old That Has Fallen Into Creative Hands
Sometimes city dwellers, who are little familiar with rural life or everyday life in a suburban area, do not understand why the owners of estates take away completely unusable old stuff to their dachas.
