Tiarella cordifolia (lat. Tiarella cordifolia) - decorative perennial culture; a representative of the genus Tiarella of the Saxifrage family. It is the most widespread and popular species of the genus. Found naturally in Europe and North America. It is actively cultivated in Russia. The plant is often called Tiarka.
Characteristics of culture
Tiarella cordifolia is represented by evergreen creeping plants up to 20 cm high. It is a cultivator. The leaves are round-heart-shaped, 5-7-milky, greenish with brown veins, collected in rosettes, sitting on long petioles. In autumn, the foliage turns reddish brown. Above the rosette of leaves, a brown peduncle rises up to 15 cm long, bearing an openwork racemose inflorescence, consisting of numerous light cream, pale cream or white graceful stellate flowers.
Fruits are two-chambered capsules with numerous small seeds. Tiaredla cordifolia forms lateral whisker shoots, which, in contact with the soil, easily multiply, as a result, the plants form solid carpets. It is difficult to imagine, but during the growing season, shoots take root in each node.
The species in question blooms in the first or second decade of May, flowering lasts 1-1.5 months. Inflorescences against the background of foliage look very elegant and attractive, but in general the carpet seems airy and lacy. Tiarella heart-leaved (in comparison with its close relatives) is distinguished by high winter-hardy properties, in addition, it is resistant to diseases and pests.
Due to the rapid growth of thiarella, it is able to capture large areas, so many gardeners refuse to plant it in the garden, and it is absolutely in vain. It will decorate the areas under the crowns of decorative trees and shrubs, protecting them from the appearance of weeds, because dense clumps do not allow them to be born, and will also allow you to retain moisture at the roots for a longer period.

Growing features
Tyarella cordifolia prefers semi-shaded areas, some varieties develop better in sunny areas, but in this case they need frequent watering. Subject to all the rules of care, in such areas, the tiarella foliage becomes more saturated, and the flowering is abundant. Soils for growing crops are preferably moist, loose, permeable, acidic or slightly acidic.
Thiarella will not tolerate compacted, heavy and waterlogged soils. The fertility of the soil does not really matter, because in nature plants grow in scarce and rocky places. It is not recommended to plant tiarella in flower beds with other crops, as it grows quickly and displaces its neighbors.
Caring for tiarella cordifolia does not take much time. Top dressing, weeding and pruning is not required for it. Watering is considered the main care procedure; plants do not like drought. Despite the fact that the culture is winter-hardy, for the winter it should be mulched with foliage or peat. In the spring, the mulch is removed, but not immediately, otherwise the bright spring rays can damage the awakening plants.
