Rudbeckia dissected (lat. Rudbeckia laciniata) - flowering culture; a representative of the genus Rudbeckia of the Asteraceae family. Native of North America. Typical natural habitats are river banks and light forest glades. In the process of growth, it forms dense thickets that are able to displace nearby specimens. One of the most unpretentious species actively used in ornamental gardening.
Characteristics of culture
Rudbeckia dissected is represented by perennial herbaceous plants up to 1.5-2 m in height with strong strongly branched stems and horizontal rhizome, which, as they grow, form a huge number of small roots. The leaves are green, the upper (stem) ones are divided into three lobes, the lower ones are pinnate. Inflorescences-baskets with a diameter of no more than 10-12 cm, consist of light yellow tubular flowers and golden yellow reed flowers, arranged in one or three rows. Flowering rudbeckia dissected begins in the second or third decade of June, lasts about 2 months, sometimes longer. The duration of flowering depends on the variety, as well as climatic conditions.
Popular varieties
Among the varieties of rudbeckia dissected, gardeners and florists note the following:
* Goldball (Goldball, translated into Russian - Golden Ball) - one of the most common varieties in Russia and European countries. It is represented by perennial herbaceous plants with a height of about 2 m, equipped with straight, highly branched stems with a smooth surface, strongly leafy at the top. Inflorescences-baskets with a diameter of 8-10 cm, can be semi-double or double, consist of green tubular flowers and yellow reed flowers. Flowering occurs in the first or second decade of July, lasts until the onset of frost.
* Goldguelle (Goldguelle, translated into Russian - Golden Source) - the variety is represented by perennial herbaceous plants up to 70-80 cm high with bright golden yellow double or semi-double inflorescences-baskets. The variety is distinguished by long flowering, which begins in early July and ends with the arrival of perceptible cold weather. Winter-hardy variety, withstands short-term frosts down to -34C.
* Goldenfoentain (Goldenfontein, translated into Russian - Golden Fountain) - the variety is represented by perennial herbaceous plants 60-80 cm high with strong weakly branched stems and semi-double or double golden-yellow inflorescences with baskets. Externally, the variety is very similar to Goldguelle. It is often referred to as analog.
The subtleties of growing
Rudbeckia dissected belongs to the category of unpretentious plants. It is suitable for planting both in sunny areas and in partial shade with diffused light. Soils accept almost everything, except for dense, waterlogged and heavy clayey. The species under consideration is propagated by seeds or by dividing the rhizome. The second procedure is carried out in early spring or August. The cut rudbeckia loves freedom, within a short time it fills a lot of space, therefore, after planting, you should separate the territory for it with slate or other material, digging it into the ground from all sides.
You can plant it along the fence or other outbuildings, to which the overgrown stems are tied. On one site, dissected rudbeckia can grow up to 8-10 years, of course, with optimal growing and care conditions. Care, by the way, is simple, enough watering during a drought, applying complex mineral fertilizers in early spring and removing faded inflorescences. The culture is infrequently affected by diseases and pests. Among diseases, gray rot, powdery mildew and stem rot can harm plants, among pests - gall nematodes, aphids and slobbering pennies.
