Anagyrolist bean (lat. Laburnum anagyroides) - ornamental shrub; a representative of the Bobovnik genus of the Legume family. Other names - anagiriform bean, golden rain, ananagirolis laburnum. Natural area - Europe, as well as zones with temperate climate and subtropical conditions.

Characteristics of culture

Anagyrolist bean is a deciduous shrub or a small tree up to 6 m high with a wide crown, which is formed in this way due to twisting shoots. The trunk is slender, covered with gray-green or light brown furrowed-wrinkled bark. Young branches drooping, pubescent, dark green in color. Leaves are compound, trifoliate, entire, petiolate, alternate, with a wedge-shaped base, on the outside, bluish-green, glabrous; with a velvety back, covered with silvery hairs. Leaflets obovate or lanceolate-elliptic, up to 8 cm long, up to 2.5 cm wide.

The flowers are yellow or golden yellow, bisexual, symmetrical, five-petalled, collected in large drooping racemes. Flowers sit on silvery pubescent pedicels. The fruit is a flattened pod with a pointed tip. The seeds are dark brown. Flowers bloom at the same time as foliage. Long-lasting flowering, usually for 30 days, begins in May. The fruits ripen in September - October. Anagyrolist bean is distinguished by its rapid growth. It cannot boast of frost-resistant properties; it can withstand frosts down to -26C.

The species in question has several decorative forms: oak-leaved (with cut foliage, outwardly similar to oak leaves), weeping (branches have a weeping shape), golden (with foliage having a beautiful golden color, which later changes to green). The average life expectancy is 20 years. Outwardly, the appearance of the descent with its relative Alpine bean, differs in the length of the inflorescences. Plants are ideal for ornamental gardening in the southern regions. It is possible to grow in central Russia, but you need to be prepared that in severe winters, annual shoots will be very frozen, and you will not be able to get beautiful low trees.

Growing conditions

Anagirolis bean is a thermophilic plant that develops best in sunny, warmed up areas protected from cold winds. It is not forbidden to grow a culture in semi-shaded areas with diffused light. A thick shadow is contraindicated. Soils are preferable rich, slightly acidic or neutral, moist, loamy, loose, air and water permeable, with a high calcium content. It is undesirable to plant anagyrolist bean in boggy, heavy, clayey and waterlogged substrates.

Reproduction

Anagirolis bean is propagated by seeds and vegetatively. The seed method is very laborious, in addition, when using it, there is little likelihood of obtaining a specimen that completely retains the characteristics of the mother plant. Despite the fact that the seed shell is very dense, it will not be difficult for even a novice gardener to germinate them; this will require scarification. Both spring and autumn sowing is possible. Only in the first case, the seeds require long-term stratification (1, 5-2 months).

Sowing is carried out in containers filled with light and nutritious soil. Crops must be covered with glass or plastic wrap. The shelter is periodically removed for ventilation, otherwise the seeds will start to rot instead of germination. With spring sowing, by autumn, the seedlings (under optimal conditions and proper care) will reach 0.5-0.7 m, then they can be transplanted to a permanent place. Before planting grown seedlings, the soil is prepared in advance, at least 2 weeks before the intended planting. The site is carefully dug up, weeds are removed and mineral and organic fertilizers are applied.

One of the most common methods of propagation of the anagirolifolia bean is considered to be cuttings. Cuttings are cut immediately after flowering and planted in a loose and moist substrate, covered with a film. For this purpose, you can build a small greenhouse. After rooting, the material is planted in a permanent place. The first 2-3 years, young and still immature plants must be covered for the winter, otherwise frosting of the shoots or death cannot be avoided.

Care

The peculiarity of the anagirolis bean is the root system, which is located closer to the soil surface, so weeding must be done very carefully. Watering is carried out in dry seasons, feeding in early spring and late autumn (in the first case with nitrogen fertilizers, in the second - with phosphorus-potassium fertilizers). Pruning is done in early spring before the buds swell. Sick, dried and frozen branches are removed from plants. Formative pruning is desirable, but only for young shrubs, as adults tolerate such a procedure too painfully. It is important to remember that anagyrolist bean is poisonous, and it is necessary to work with it with gloves.
