Bassia Egyptian (lat. Bassia aegyptiaca) - a representative of the genus Bassius of the Amaranth family. Belongs to the category of dicotyledonous plants. The species was first described only in 2006. Naturally grows in the northern regions of Egypt. Typical growing areas are areas with sandy soils.
Plant characteristic
The Egyptian Basia is represented by perennial shrubs, reaching a height of 60-70 cm. They are characterized by erect upper and creeping lower branches of a blue-green color. The foliage, in turn, is sedentary, endowed with sharp tips, in length does not exceed 2 cm.
The flowers are small, inconspicuous, have five white stamens, can be either dioecious or bisexual, collected in spike-shaped inflorescences. Inflorescences often have two flowers in each bracts.
Fruits are represented by achenes, not exceeding 1.4 mm in diameter. Seeds are oval, pale brown in color. The Egyptian bassia enters fruiting in mid-late spring.
Growing conditions
Egyptian Bassia is not a whimsical plant, but prefers sunny areas and areas with diffused light. A thick shadow for bass is destructive. The considered species prefers sandy soils. She is not afraid of drought. This is the reason for the place of natural growth.
