Climbing azarina (lat. Asarina scandens) - curly liana; a representative of the Azarina genus of the Plantain family. One of the most common types. The homeland is considered to be sunny Mexico.

Characteristics of culture

Climbing azarina is represented by climbing plants, the shoots of which reach a length of 7 m. They are characterized by heart-shaped velvety leaves that form in huge numbers. The flowers are tubular, always bright, and resemble small gramophones in shape. The flower colors are very diverse, for example, the Red dragon variety has red flowers with a pink tint, the Bridge's Whit variety has white like snow, and the Sky Blue variety has rich blue.

Climbing azarina is a highly decorative plant. With a favorable climate and careful care, the vine reaches impressive sizes. Moreover, it is very versatile, it can be used to decorate a fence, gazebos and, of course, balconies. You can safely plant it in hanging baskets or simply on flat areas where it will form a thick lush carpet. Just imagine, in 2 weeks, climbing asarina forms a carpet with an area of one square meter.

Growing features

The seed method is the main way of growing asarina climbing, it is a very painstaking and long process. With the seed method, the plants begin to flower about the fourth month after sowing, therefore, sowing for seedlings is carried out in winter, that is, at the end of January - beginning of February. The soil for sowing vines is used loose, fertile. It is not forbidden to use a universal soil or one prepared independently from humus, peat, leaf and sod land, as well as sand, taken in a ratio of 1: 1: 1: 1.

The seeds do not need a deepening; they can be scattered over the soil surface and slightly pressed and sprinkled with a layer of sand. Then spill thoroughly with a spray bottle, cover with glass or cling film and put in a well-lit place. The optimum temperature for friendly and fast emergence is 18C. Under these conditions, they appear within 14-18 days.

Diving in separate containers, in turn, is carried out with the appearance of 2 true leaves on the seedlings. When the seedlings are grown, it is important to set up a support. Pinching is also encouraged. This manipulation will lead to the fact that the vine in the process of growth will give a large number of shoots, which means it will be very lush. In open ground, seedlings of asarina climbing are planted at the end of May, when the threat of frost has passed.

Before disembarking, it is imperative to install a support, a metal mesh is not prohibited, but it is better that it have large cells. The area for successful cultivation must be well lit, protected from cold northerly winds. Lowlands with stagnant cold air and precipitation are unacceptable. The soil is preferable light, saturated, loose, water and breathable. It is advisable to add well-washed river sand and peat to the soil. At the bottom of the planting hole, it is important to make drainage in the form of gravel or broken bricks, as an option.

It is important to shed the plants and mulch immediately after planting. By the way, the optimal distance between plants is half a meter. Two weeks later, it is necessary to carry out top dressing with organic matter, for example, mullein infusion. In the future, this procedure should be repeated every 10-14 days. Before flowering, it is recommended to feed the vine with a complex of fertilizers containing potassium and phosphorus. Watering should be regular, especially during drought.
