However, to create a small pond in the garden with your own hands, any container with a diameter of at least 50-60 cm, a depth of at least 40 cm, which does not allow water to pass through, is suitable. For this, a wooden barrel, a plastic box, a ceramic pot, a metal basin, a bucket are suitable, an unnecessary stone container would be an ideal option. The selected base for the pond is placed in a dug hole, previously tamped, cleaned of rhizomes, stones and debris. For arranging a small pond, you should not choose a place under the open rays of the sun, as the water will be very hot, which contributes to its frequent "blooming". If you place the pond in a shady place, you can get ornamental fish in it, but some plants, for example, a water lily, which requires about 6 hours of light per day, will not be able to grow in the shade. Throughout the season, the pond requires careful maintenance, you should periodically top up and change the water, monitor the condition of plants and fish. The ponds, which are based on a small container, are dismantled for the winter, the container is thoroughly washed and cleaned, the fish are sent to the aquarium for wintering, the plants, if possible, are placed in a deeper reservoir, or they are equipped with a container with water and sent to the cellar for their living.
Decorating plays a significant role in the arrangement of the pond. The bottom of the pond is usually laid out with stone. You can also simulate the natural bottom, for this the selected container is covered with several layers of waterproof construction glue, then a composition consisting of cement, coarse sand and peat is applied over the wet. The bottom dries in the open air, if it is very hot, then the container is covered with a damp cloth. Over time, the composition will be covered with moss and take on a natural look. Another option for decorating the bottom is to choose a painted container with ornaments and patterns as a basis, however, the care of such a pond should be more careful, because the beauty of the container should be in sight. In such a pond, goldfish will look great. Plants are a very important element of the pond, they play not only a decorative role, but also purify water, protect against diseases and improve its quality. A water hyacinth is suitable for a small pond, the plant floats on the surface of the water, promotes its purification, reproduces well, a miniature or dwarf water lily will perfectly complement the composition. If the pond is not supposed to be dismantled, then a blind area can be made around the pond or the banks can be strengthened with cement and laid out with decorative stone. The curb around the reservoir can be organized with the help of undersized plants and flowers, however, the number of aquatic plants will have to be limited, since the pond is still not a flower garden. You can also plant tall grasses, this will add naturalness to the pond and add natural neglect to it. Small ponds are good because they can be arranged in any corner of the garden, regardless of the relief and coverage. A babbling fountain or miniature animal figurines will be a good decoration for a mini-pond.
